Good job for your first time brother. 1) Filter should be removed before the oil is drained. Reason for this is that it will allow the oil to drain better as it allows air to enter the engine from the top. 2) One can using brake cleaner to clean the inside of the filter housing. 3) A small tab of oil on oil filter housing o-ring will help with the installation (and future removal) of the filter housing.

One thing I learned the hard way. Apply very light pressure to the plastic oil filter housing. Too much pressure and you’ll be replacing that housing with a massive leak.

Did you not get a new O ring with the filter as that must be replaced with each filter change.
