On my daughter's 2017 Civic, I didn't see the clips that hold the pan under the engine in the correct place, and I ended up installing, then removing all 8 fasteners and doing it twice. You need to hold the pan slightly aft of where it will end up, and slide it forward. This actually makes it easier to get the other fasteners started, since the pan is held in the proper place. Also, on her Civic, you hold the reset "stem" on the RH side of the instrument panel for 10 seconds, release it, and hold for another 5 seconds to reset the Oil Life indicator.

or you can just to into the vehicle setting thru the touch screen and reset it rather than doing all of those button combinations

Hi! Great vid. I noticed some things that I wanna point out. I just have some recommendations for you. 1: you should wait for about 5-10 mins for the oil the cool down. I’d rather be safe than sorry. 2: You should always tighten the oil filter by hand. You shouldn’t need an oil filter wrench. Anyway have a good one!

They're using a torque wrench to avoid over torqueing it. Not vitally necessary but a nice extra measure if you have one.

I'm no master mechanic, but your supposed to use a new crush washer on the drain bolt, and you should remove the oil fill cap prior to removing the drain bolt. Also, you should be using wheel chauks (sp?).

You missed a VERY important safety step: "Use stands on a hard, level surface eg concrete and avoid lifting on sloping ground." You did show them in the background but made no mention of their importance or their use. Another minor oversight: At 0:57 all screws holding the under-car engine plate that were not removed and placed in a container for easy recovery dropped out and scattered on the ground. That is not careful workmanship.

Warm oil is is less viscous so flows like water instead of syrup so you'll drain more of the old stuff out.

I’ve always changed my own oil in all of my cars and this car’s oil filter location is the absolute worst! I have a 2020 and have changed my own oil probably every time but one and I’ve gotten oil all over the place each time. Why would they position the oil filter upside down like that? It’s impossible to remove without it getting all over the place.

If you want to avoid getting oily, the perfect tool for pulling the oil drain plug and any other bolt, nut, or screw (with the right adapters) is a cheap Chinese $30 cordless electric ratchet. They are indispensable, work as a normal ratchet, and do about 15 ft lbs on electric and have impact type hammers. You can't go wrong, I got a couple for the pit guys at an oil change center and they like them and they've lasted over a year.

When I DIY my oil changes, first I drive the car for about 5 minutes. It gets the oil warm (not HOT), so the oil flows easier when draining.
