An old guy I worked with in auto parts worked on PT Boat engines in WW 2. He had a Chrysler 300 he drove to sell.parts It had 200,000.plus miles on it. He said that he didn't change the oil, just the filter regularly. I did and still do change oil and filter. I've been fortunate to have had very few mechanical problems . Oil is cheap compared engine rebuilds Quality filters and quality oil.

Changing the filter on the Chrysler MIGHT help in cleaning the muck from the old oil. But the boat mechanic must have been a magician. How else on earth does that oil hold its capacity to lubricate???

Excellent video until you endorsed Fram filters (might be the sorriest name brand filter made). Their synthetic filters are ok.

Thanks for posting. Great safeguards for the DIY community. I had a jeep a long time back. I used to do one little thing. After the oil stops flowing out of the drain hole, I would disconnect the ignition coil and crank the engine for 1 second each, a couple of times. This way, about 500ml more oil would drain out. Considering the fact that that engine only had an oil capacity of 3 liters, that was a substantial amount of oil removed. NOTE: DO NOT TRY ON DIESELS OR NEWER (POST-2000) PETROL VEHICLES. AND NO, THIS WILL NOT RUIN THE ENGINE.

Never seen THIS mistake talked about & almost everyone does not do it! Esp. if you use oil change places. :: NOT leaving it drip long enough before reinstalling the plug! Try this after it just begins to drip slowly, when probably most persons ends their change -replace plug loosely (for your going to remove it again shortly); after 5-10 min.(15 maybe better), [can do the filter changeout at this time]; remove plug again & SEE how much oil comes out!!! IF you do not do this, your leaving dirty oil in the pan, though just a small amount.

I let the oil drain overnight i.e. 8+hours.

Also change drain plug crush washer which can cause oil leaks and stripping your oil pan by over tightening oil plugs to stop oil leaks.

There is a wafer type device about 1/2 inch that fits between oil filter/engine with 1/8" NPT holes that can be installed to fill oil filter and VOID AREA in engine. Pushing the oil in can be done in many ways, even by gravity without a pump. Ideally, cars should be set up with a prelube electric motor & pump to pump oil to the engine before it starts at "maybe" 5 psig. This could be set up with a 10 psig relief valve, a pressure switch to turn it on again at 15 psig decreasing pressure, as many hybrids/PHEV turn off engines while running. Would like comments on this, as I'm thinking of selling such a device. My view, most important gauge on a car, to protect the engine would be a differential pressure gauge on the oil filter. Never saw a car with one though. This would tell you when to change oil i.e. new filter/oil shows 5 psig. Change oil/filter when pressure gets to 15 psig. Maybe I should have psigdp? Again, comments?

My car I can step on the gas and it will crank won’t start after you change oil it helps to do that so the filter fills as you are cranking then fire it up🫡

This has obviously been made on the quick with basic information you hear in BS talk by people that don't really know what they are talking about. This entire channel must be unreliable and just making videos for monetary purposes only. "Car Care Clues" must not care enough to even research the subject but just make a video with good or bad information as long as it gets views. Don't waste your time with them. There are other channels that are very well informed from experience. This is not one of them.

Your the only person to make this true comment on a post like this i've seen. Much respect. I also pour in some new clean oil so it's rinses/removes any old oil sitting on bottom of the oil pan. 5k max is my limit on an oil change.

Almost impossible to fill through outer holes. Unfiltered new oil is better than no oil at all on startup. There are also other voids beyound filter in engine that should be filled. See my total comment.

What about when the oil filter goes in upside down like Dodge's,???

There is a wafer like device that fits between filter/engine which has 2 NPT 1/8" plugs. This could be installed and then oil slowly pumped into outer holes until clean oil starts dripping out oil drain. "wafers" are sold at NAPA stores. Small pumps on line or make your own out of tubing/hand pump/or gravity feed.

Horrible video since you lied about the # of tips and you said Fram makes good filters. Fram high level (aka expensive) filters are okay but still not the best. Fram basic filters are the worst for your car..... just pure junk. Do better!!!!!!

You have to fill your oil filter with oil because your car will be running dry for a couple of seconds where you can damage your engine

@@RaviDeneese thats not true. What do you do when filters are installed sideways or upside down? Oil filters are filled with oil in a second. You are not running your engine dry. Thats a myth
