HOW TO CHANGE THE OIL IN A 2010-2014 V6 CAMARO

Decided to make a quick video showing how to change the oil in the 5th gen 2010-2014 V6 Camaros since my wife keeps using "needing an oil change" as an excuse to take of with the Corvette everyday,lol.

This was a very helpful video. I’m used to changing the oil in my 4th gen Camaro but I just got a 2013 V6 Camaro and I was kind of concerned about that strange looking filter I’m not used to stuff like that and I was wondering how to reset the oil life computer thingy on the dash but this video helped me out a lot. I've been using Lucas Oil Additive for years, just subtract one quart of your oil and add the Lucas. Its made for Synthetic and Regular oil, just check the label. 230,000 miles and my motor runs like the day I bought it new with zero miles and changed it at the first 1500 mile break in to Mobile 1 Synthetic and one quart Lucas Synthetic.

Smart woman. No one treats your property like you do, and oftentimes, shops will just throw whatever is deemed universal for all vehicles in your car. I just recently bought my Camaro and was lazy due to cold, wet weather. So I took it to a shop to do a coolant flush. I specified that my car takes dex-cool coolant. When i got home , i noticed they put in a different color coolant. It was a pinkish orange. Which means they likely just drained the radiator and left the old red dexcool in the engine block. They mixed coolants and didn't flush sh*t. They later told me they used shop pro yellow universal coolant and that they don't carry Dex-cool. They assured me the universal mixes with all coolants. Im OCD and Chevy forums suggested getting that crap out immediately. I ended up doing the job myself. Flushed the system with distilled water until it drained out clear (5 flushes). I learned our cars hold half the coolant in the block and the other half in the radiator. The Block still had 100% distilled water in it, so I filled the radiator with dexcool concentrate. Ran a coolant test to ensure a 50/50 ratio, and it tested perfectly. It cost me over $100 less to do it the right way on my own, and I gained some knowledge, peace of mind, and tools out of it.

I start the engine ( thus filling the oil filter ) & turn it off . Let set for a few minutes , then check oil lever . Start it again & check for leaks . Wyr God bless

Never hurts to double check.👍 But the oil will immediately drain from this top mount filter setup as soon as you shut off the engine so it will have no bearing on how the oil level reads. Its not like a bottom mount filter where it fills up and holds half a quart. 😉

OK , so I am hearing , the oil in the filter drains back into the oil pan , when you shut off the engine ? When reading on an oil forum , there is a lot of talk about anti-drain-back valves on spin on filters . Do the cartrage filters not have anti-drain-back ? If you watch the video you will see it’s a straight through filter open on both sides and there is no standing oil when I remove it. (After having just driven it ten minutes earlier). Also this is a 2011 Camaro, so it’s the 3.6. 👍🏻

Derek I had done an entire write up of the build of the truck with pics on the 67-72 chevy truck forum but several years ago photobucket did away with free picture hosting and I lost it all. The bed of the truck is now loaded with bodyparts for the new owner so it would require unloading everything and pulling the floor out to get new pics. But its very simple and you can actually see it all in several of the older videos. Its just a blazer tank with the filler running out the side in the gap between where the frame dips down and the bottom of the bed. There is a perfect amount of space there to run it. Then we grafted a flush mount fuel cap setup made for a motorcycle tank into the back of the passenger side fender about half way up and there you have it.

Yes, it makes it louder, gives it an annoying whistle at part throttle cruising, and constantly triggers a check engine light. If that’s what you’re after I highly recommend it. Lol

Lay down a couple 2x4s and drive the front wheels up on them. It may give you enough clearance to get your jack under it.

Just use what’s recommended by the manufacturer. There’s usually a chart in your owners manual that will recommend changing depending on extreme temperatures.

The lines on your dipstick aren’t exact, but it should be pretty close to that.

You can continue to use the factory recommended oil for the life of your care if you wish. I personally use Mobile 1 full synthetic high mileage after a vehicle gets around 70,000+ miles.

No, you should put in oil until it shows full on the dipstick. But you can start with however much you want.
