Hey man I recently bought an Airsoft gun and I noticed it uses a dean connector and it’s my first time hearing about it but does anyone know where I can by a deans connector charger?

Hi. There is the option to use a tamiya to deans converter on your charger. When you get one though just ensure the connections are the correct polarity. They are sometimes switched which will definitely result in a bad day. Most decent chargers will have multiple connection types though if your getting a new charge but even some of these will be for xt60/90 and so you will still need an adapter. I did a video on lipo charging and also on the charger that I use. You can find those ones in the batteries and electrical section of the channel. An adapter can usually be obtained from most airsoft suppliers or alternatively ebay. Hope this helps.

That's certainly doable as well. It's just the reverse of what we do here but obviously the method is slightly different. Fitting tamiyas is far easier with a pen extraction tool. Less solder involved but you can solder the pins if you prefer. However all that being said I would strongly recommend any connectors over tamiya. Hope this helps.

I once resoldered a serial port... Damn that was a tedious job... I guess it's easier to do deans? I'm thinking of changing my tamiya to deans just bought my first gun few weeks ago

Hahaha. If you can do that you certainly can do deans, like you say much easier. It doesn't take long and I can't recommend it enough. Well worth it in the long run. Better electrical contact, firmer connection and neater in general. All my replicas get the deans treatment before I even use them these days.

Performance wise, not much apart from maybe less resistance in your electrical system. Practically though deans are much better connectors. They provide a more stable connection mechanically they are far less prone to failure, they can handle higher current and as we mentioned create less resistance. Finally as a slight bonus they are slightly smaller and so take up less space. A decent serviceability upgrade more than anything else.

So I had gotten a new gearbox from a guy off hopup, he was switching to deans but had stopped right before he put the deans on, is there a way I could put the Tamiya back on or do I have to stick to deans?

Absolutely, you can put the Tamiya plug back on if you want to. I can't emphasize enough the benefits of going with deans plugs but if you prefer Tamiya that's not a problem. If your dealing with bare conducters then you will need to get hold of some Tamiya plugs. They are quite simple to fit. If the wire has not been cut then you should be able to push the Tamiya plug back onto the crimp ends.
