How to change the transmission gearbox oil in a manual Porsche Cayman 987 & check the oil condition

I always remove the fill plug first. That way if there is a problem removing that plug and you have already drained the oil first, you are stuck not driving until you sort out the fill plug.

When filling is it necessary to check for any trapped air, I guess if you have measured out 3.2l and that is what has gone in then your hood! , great video and much appreciated

Hey, yes just make sure the vehicle in level when jacked up, I did check to confirm how much oil came out, was about 3l 👍🏼

BLOODY HELL. just jacked up my '06 CS for the first time to put track pads on the front for hpde and it was a nightmare! With the 350Z, I can jack up almost any point along the corners or side frame rails and at least two wheels go up as expected. but with the bloody CS, raising up the left rear for example causes the left front to go up and if you have a jack stand already under the left front then the right front goes up but the right rear does not. not only did I spend two hours just trying to get the car down off of the jack stands afterward but the bloody thing scared the hell out of me because I didn't know which part was going to fall if I jack up one corner it would tilt scarily. replacing the pads took 20 minutes. getting the car up and then back down took two effing hours. and it's not like you can just raise up one end or the other because the car is so small that it goes up quite high and there's a fear of the jack stands slipping. and by the way I have huge 12 ton jack stands. so I'm having to rethink my plans regarding a lift or a quick Jack.

Yes I feel your pain 😩 jacking it up without wanting to damage anything, I did it once with jack stands in my narrow garage and it took ages, hence why I bought the quick jack, they are not cheap but I’ve used them so many times now, and not just on the CS. At least now I can get the car up in 10mins.

@@Aeneas137 haha no worries, you won’t regret it… I think with the cayman the jacking points are in such a position that you have to take it up slowly, with the stiff chassis it’s easily off balance. When my was up on stand it was balanced on just 3 corners 🤷🏽‍♂️ I had to wedge a jack pad under the forth stand just to take up the slack…

Hey, yes process is the same but the filling quantity is 2.8 litres on the gen 1. I’ve got the BL 5000slx quick jack, great bit of kit 👍🏼

Hello mate! Thanks for offering us such knowledge for free and so well put together. I'm planning to buy a 987.2 3.4 with the pdk gearbox. With around 150k miles. Here in France E85 (ethanol fuel) is very very much cheaper and converting the car is one of the first mod I plan to do. It's quite a sensitive subject for Porsche enthusiasts here but I've been confirmed that thanks to the direct injection it's not problematic it's better to change the spark plugs for iridium's though. Do you have any information about that? Apart from that, no mods planned as it has been serviced recently (gearbox oil change/water pump and belt). Thank for your time mate. Take care. Marc
