Thank-you for explaining the connector clip - That two step process is missing in all other KZbin videos, and for the 2011 Chrysler 300 (same hardware, with the connector behind the front wheel well plastic), the clip is oriented with the chassis wire up, so in Florida it gets sand down into the clip area - really hard to get the red tab completely out, and then squeeze the black part. Required spray cleaner and a small pick to get the red clip out, and then a small flat bladed screw driver to apply enough down-force to squeeze the black clip in - finally got it apart. Otherwise a pretty easy repair. Many thanks for the video!

Thanks for the tip, especially around that darn plug. Being used to "normal" automotive locking style electrical plugs, I figured it was the same on my 2011 Dodge Caliber. Slide the lock back, press down on the back of locking tab...and boom...comes apart, but NO MOPAR...had to make it difficult. I bet I messed with the passenger side plug for an well over an hour...walk away, cuss, go back. Having to stick my hand in places only a little persons hands are supposed to go to get to it too. To their defense...I have seen where the normal style with the locking tab out will not release due to dirt, grime and heat.

@ProphetOfIsa8 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the same problem, and yes this code scanner will pick it up, but i've noticed through other comments that using the Torque app on an Android will work the best for this code. Seems that the app you use with these bluetooth scanners is almost more important than the scanner itself. When you get the code and research it it should be wheel specific.

$15.00 abs code scanner? I wish I would have found that before I bought the $100.00 one from Harbor Freight. I really want to thank you for going to the trouble of making this video. It is good and right to the point. I do have 3 questions though. Is it always the wheel sensor when you get ABS code, in other words when you pull the code and it tells you its the wheel sensor? Is it always the sensor? Or is it the sensor circuit? I noticed that this car only has 12k on it. My 09 only has 34k, why are we having to deal with this with such low miles?
@ProphetOfIsa8 жыл бұрын
+Jerry Hill Yeah, It's s bluetooth scanner that pairs to your phone. No, it's not always the WSS when you get the abs code, it could be the ABS module or any number of quite a few things. In my case, it gave me a code that turned out to be a wheel specific WSS/ABS error code. In my opinion the reason this happens at such little (and random) mileage is that the wheel speed sensors have no gasketing or seal to them. They're just "snugged" onto the hub assembly, which lets water into the sensor area and then rust kind of cakes onto the sensor, not letting it read correctly. a simple crush gasket or o-ring would probably make this a bomb proof fix.

With the ODBII reader paired to my phone and connected to my challenger, I have it check for fault codes and receive a message saying "no fault codes". Is there a special plugin I need to enable? Thank you!
@ProphetOfIsa5 жыл бұрын
My car showed me the codes, but it was intermittent in showing me; sometimes it worked other times it didn't. Try using the car's info center on the gauge cluster to read the codes: with the car off and without starting the car, turn the key to the ON position then back to ACC then back to on two more times. It should then display codes near your odometer
@korymiller54165 жыл бұрын
@@ProphetOfIsa Unfortunately, mine is a 2015 with push button start. From what I've been reading, the 2015's and up no longer allow you to pop the button off and start with a key, hence no ability to perform the "key trick". Any other suggestions? Otherwise, I guess I'm going to buy all four wheel sensors, replace one at a time, drive it, and see if I can identify the right one. Dealership wants $99 to diagnose, I can probably purchase all four for less than that.

So I replaced both front wheel speed sensors on my '10 Charger today, and unlike your car, the connector for the sensor is exposed and not behind the paneling. The female end is pretty much wedged into the wall of the wheel well and the plug is held in with a piece of spring metal that sits over top of the whole connector. I had to pop that piece of spring metal out and just pulled the male end of the sensor out.

Great video, thank you! I wish I had more sense to troubleshoot this from the start. My dealer charged me $290 to replace the front left wheel sensor!! Then the signals flashed up again 48 hours later. I went by autozone and they couldn't pull a code, so I bought the code reader you bought, except the one for IOS and used cardoctor. It couldn't find any codes stored. So I went back to the dealership, and he found the stored code. It was the other wheel sensor, on the back left. Any advice on using the code reader from amazon? Do I need to use a different app? It's a 2013 dodge charger. I am definitely going to replace this one myself, but I was wondering how to read the codes. If I need a paid app, that's fine, I just want to make sure it will work before I pay for it. The lights for the back wheel came on only briefly and cut off. I happened to have the code reader connected, and it read U0002 which is high speed CAN communication Bus Performance. Google didn't reveal anything about that code relevant to a wheel sensor though.
@ProphetOfIsa8 жыл бұрын
I don't know anything about a U0002 code, but if you have a suspicion about it being a WSS, I'd probably replace the other three and double check the other one, it'll cost you 40 bucks and an afternoon, but beats 290 a wheel. As for an app on IOS, I use OBD fusion now, (Switched from Android to Iphone) and it seems to work very similar to Torque.

Got a Dodge Charger with 52k miles now. To anyone considering a dodge vehicle just don't do it! It's nothing but problems, cheap interior parts and everyday you just pray your not running into another issue. I have had to replace the wheel sensors twice now in under 10k miles. I was dumb enough to let the stealer ship Charge me almost 200 dollars for a 10-30 dollar fix. Now I have this weird ticking noise coming out of my shift box in the center console when I turn or hit the brake on low Rpms. If you like shit failing every other day by all means get a dodge. If your miles are racking up I recommend getting rid of the car ASAP before something major malfunctions. To say my accord never ever gave me issues, American cars are a gamble and expensive to repair. It really does not surprise me one bit that all dodge makes and models all have issues with abs and traction control. I though it was just me but it doesn't seem that way

R/T Oz Obviously you are buying used cars that you can only afford. Ford chevy or any other make and model have sensors that are meant to keep people spending money. In your case you need a 65 model vehicle with no computer sensors. Welcome to earth stupid

I'm trying to buy the parts to replace it from rock auto. Rock auto shows me the option for the rear ones with heavy duty breaks or without breaks and I'm not sure which part to get. The sensor with or without heavy duty breaks. I've attached the link to Rock auto parts for this, can anyone tell me which one I should be buying? (I'm going to replace all 4) www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/dodge,2012,challenger,3.6l+v6,1502177,brake+&+wheel+hub,abs+wheel+speed+sensor,1912 Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

Lillian Huston the heavy brakes is the upgraded srt brakes. So a normal v6 challenger will not have the heavy brake sensor. Part numbers for the v6 are 4779642AC for rear right and 4779643AD for rear left

what is the puroose of a wheel speed indicator besides annoying the fuck out of people? i see every one with abs/esp brake light problems on these cars

This is the wong part. It does not reconize this as a compatable part. I went to the dealer because this device you have dose not read the abs code. This part will not work because its not reconized as an OEM part.
