how to change the window switch on a Bmw e36

Yours is easy mine has about 7-8 wires per switch with terminals (from factory) makes it hard to remember where they go when I take the shifter surround off

Question : what does that little red button do on the console, right in front of the shifter? For me it does nothing, only glows, but i'm kind of curious. Thanks, and btw, good, informative vid :)

Lol that's the led light for the alarm module on the car, everytime you lock your car it blinks

ThePeca1988 you do! :D If your vehicle didn't come with the alarm remote then that means the previous owner lost it, but fortunately it is very easy to replace, just purchase the proper one for cheap online and you can find out how to program it, it's very easy. If you want to double check if your vehicle is equipped with the alarm system, just pop your hood and see if there is a siren/horn looking thing, should be located near either side of the headlights, or somewhere very visible in your engine compartment! Hope this helps :)

Whoa, this actually helps a lot! As i got all the stuff you mentioned, but all of that is actually completely inactive, not even a "beep" when i lock the car, so i thought it was only a "factory" option what wasnt purchased. I'll definitely take a look around to see what i can find (in terms of a remote), and to see if it actually still working properly or (hopefully not) going totally nuts :D

I changed a window switch in my car the other day, but the illumination in the switch wont come on. I tried 2 switches from my old car, none of them would illuminate. I am 100% sure they were illuminating when I took them out of the old car.🤔🤔
