Nice video! I noticed that both regular and synthetic blend oil are available from Quicksilver. I have a 2004 4.3 MPI. Which type is recommended?

Mercury Marine recommends the us of 25W-40 Synthetic Blend in the 4.3L MPI.

I originally bought a 2.3 gal fluid extractor, but really like the pump you use. Is there something like this that will work for both threaded dipsticks and those without threads (e.g. generator) so I don't have to buy 2 products?
@QuicksilverProductsАй бұрын
While our oil drain pump is primarily used for threaded dipstick tubes, there are aftermarket extraction tubes that you can purchase that thread onto the drain pump. One that comes to mind is from Mercury Marine. It features a threaded coupler to attach to the oil drain pump and has 19 inches of .375 O.D. tubing to insert into a non-threaded dipstick tube. The part number on that extraction tube specifically is 859717A2, but there are likely others on the market of various sizes for a wide array of applications.

Do you remove the oil fill cap before pumping?

It is not necessary to remove the oil fill cap prior to pumping the oil.

Excellent video, but for some boats like in the case of my 2005 Maxum 1800 MX, they have an oil drain plug on a line that you can feed through the bilge drain hole and you can drain the oil that way as well.

Why didn't you clean the oil filter mount on the engine before putting on the new filter? Dirt or old oil can cause a problem. I always wipe off the oil filter block mount to have everything clean before installing the new oil filter.

Why is one oil bottle 25-40 and one is 10-30? Please.

Both oils were not used in the engine. We simply have both shown to help viewers understand that we offer many weights of oil for various applications. 😊

I have no idea how this actually works but I’ve been sitting here pumping and nothing is happening. Any thoughts?

If you're attempting to pump the engine oil out using a thread-on pump, you'll need to make sure your pump and dipstick tube are properly threaded into one another as to not allow an air leak. If you do not have a threaded dipstick tube, you'll need to purchase an accessory hose kit that threads onto the pump and gets inserted down the dipstick tube to the bottom of the oil pan.

@@QuicksilverProducts Oh I'm well aware of how it works. It was tight on the threaded dipstick tube! It seems like the product is having issues internally (I've returned both). For $40-50 I'd expect this thingn to have a motor and pump itself. :) I think it's the diaphragm inside... it's not working properly. Maybe I got 2 of these that were broken, not sure, but from my experience, I would not recommend this. It did not work at all like it was described.

We're sorry to hear that. It seems odd that you would have two defective oil pumps, but we certainly can't say for sure since we've not inspected them. Other things that come mind are the angle of the boat my have shifted the oil in the sump to a point where it is not covering the bottom of the dipstick or the dipstick may be allowing air into it between the top and bottom somehow. Since you don't have either of the pumps any longer you won't be able to check this, but you can submerge the bottom of the pump where it would attach to the dipstick into a bowl of liquid and operate the pump to verify that it pulls the fluid out of the bowl and discharges it. In any event, we're sorry that you've encountered some frustration with our oil pumps and we're glad to hear that you were able to return them to the retailer from which they were purchased.

I like to take some oil and rub it on the new oil filter rubber sealing gasket before I put it on. Hand tighten the oil filter and with the oil on the gasket, I never need to use a tool to take the filter off.

Always rub oil all over my rubber before putting it on to.
