All good and simple instructions. Only comment I would add is you'd be doing everyone a favor if you check BMW manual for the prescribed torque settings and use an accurate torque wrench. Not everyone has the "feel" that only comes with lots of experience.

Great vid but I’m curious I have a 2010 e90 4 cylinder engine that I recently serviced I put 6 quarts with 1 marvel mystery oil thinking I’ve over filled it but the gauge stays on about 75 percent no matter how much I added could this be a bad oil sensor it never says low or inactive or triggers oil light but I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to use 4.5 quart how is it at about 7 and still on 75 percent
@findfixxflip Жыл бұрын
yes could definitely be a bad sensor. The best way to know for sure is to get the oil capacity of motor, and fill to that amount. I wouldn't hurt to replace the sensor at the same time to eliminate the possible problem. Also make sure to let the car run for a little bit to build up pressure before checking level through the cluster. Thank's watching also
@deaneybwoy4332 Жыл бұрын
@@findfixxflipthanks for the fast reply but I read in the manual that if the sensor was bad or needed to be replaced that it would say inactive isn’t that the case or not all of the time?

@findfixxflip Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks, Not sure why your sensor is saying inactive. Are you sure it hasn't gone bad they do go bad fairly often. If you are changing the oil , change the sensor same time. It's a little pricey , but worth to know what level your engine actually has so you don't blow it up.

If the oil sensor light comes on .Then goes off after you stop engine then you check your oil level and shows ok.Then the oil light stays off.But comes on again when you go on another journey.Oil as been changed and filter but keeps recurring.I had problems with my foot well logic box.Because it says some times light out.but it isn't.Is the oil sencor wired through this.
@findfixxflip Жыл бұрын
Hello, are you talking about the FRM Footwell module? That usually controls lights, and power windows. I would say it's time to get a new sensor. They aren't cheap around $300, but it a good precaution to save you from engine damage. It sound's like maybe your level is just low enough to the trigger the sensor to go off. I would start by changing the oil and measuring the exact amount you put back in. I believe it's 6.5 liters for 3 series. That's the only way to know for sure that you have the proper level. Even if the sensor says ok, It might not the accurate amount of oil, that's why with changing the oil you know you have enough. Lastly if the car has a slow leak which alot of bmw's do you could be losing anywhere from a 1'/4 to a full quart in a matter of weeks or days depending on the leak. I hope this helps. Have a great day
@user-yo6cb1sf2n4 ай бұрын
Sorry I hope I don’t sound dumb but it’s because I just did the oil change. So my question is, do you have to drain out the oil to change the oil sensor or can you do this with the oil?
@findfixxflip4 ай бұрын
So, yes it's at the bottom and all the oil has to come out first. It's not too bad to drain into a pan, change sensor and fill back up again.
@billebrill87303 ай бұрын
I am interested too having just changed the oil and now get an oil sensor fault!
@findfixxflip3 ай бұрын
@@billebrill8730 damn, so what i would do is take the time to drain it again in a clean pan, then it's just 3 10mm bolts, and pry sensor out with a flat blade screwdriver very gently. press the 2 tabs on the connector, sometimes there are a pain to disconnect. then just torque in 10nms and reinstall drain plug, fill and you should be good. wow i wrote you a whole diy. lol

Excelent work, but it didn't mention in the video, oil leaks usually if they do happen, happen when the oil is hot, which means its not as dense as "cold" oil. Did you wait for it to heat up?
@findfixxflip11 ай бұрын
Thank you, and yes i did wait for it to heat up. The problem was it wasnt registering no matter how many times i tried. Ever since o installed the new sensor theres been no issues, although it does take a couple tries before it registers, wish bmw didnt eliminate the dip stick. Lol
@llethal779611 ай бұрын
@@findfixxflip I think they eliminated the dip stick because people buying sensors is more money for them, and also its a bit more "fancy", but still, dip stick is the best

@findfixxflip2 жыл бұрын
yes the electronic dipstick isn't very accurate or a good idea from bmw. I just recently changed my oil, and level said ok, but it was over a quart down. The best way to know is change your oil, add 6.5 quarts to the motor if it is 3.0 liter 6 cylinder, then check for leaks, and change it regurarly around 5k-7k miles. hope this helps and thanks for watching
