This video shows how to charge 18650 battery with a 3-Pot LM2596 CC/CV Module with demo.
Detail operation of the 3rd potentiometer is also explained.
Schematics of this module is introduced for those who would like to look into more details.
Check out my other video which explains in great detail of the principle operation of buck converter and CC/CV functionality.

a simple overcharge protection may be added by simply connecting the charge led info to the on/off pin of the LM2596. More info if interested!

What protection circuit prevents low amperage CV charging at 4.20V? Or will the very low amperage eventually push the cell up past 4.21V despite it being in CV mode?
@gemsungelectronics460
@gemsungelectronics460 Жыл бұрын
Hi, by using the LM2596 module to charge your battery, it is the regulation of the buck converter that keeps the voltage at 4.2V. So it will never reach above 4.2V even when the battery is fully charged. Thank you for watching!

Hi, do you have a link to the schematics? Also, im trying to make a circuit for cutting the charge voltage when the ok led is on, via a transistor that commands a relay. What do you recommend for the transistor base signal? Thanks.
@gemsungelectronics460
@gemsungelectronics460 Жыл бұрын
Hi, the schematics is included in this video at 3:17. You can use the signal from OK LED as the base signal for the transistor. There are many example circuits for turning on/off with the transistor and relay. Thank you for watching!

Thx for explanation. Is this module enough for safe charging 12v drill battery? Or is it better to connect bms 3s on output and then battery pack + -? Cheers

Hello, thank you for watching! This module is capable of limiting the current for safe charging. (Limiting the charge current to 0.5C is a good idea!) But it does not automatically turn off the power when the charge is complete. This can be done by several methods. 1. Modify the circuit. (connecting the charge indicator LED to On/Off pin - High is off!) 2. Use a battery with built-in protection. 3. Use a separate BMS. Hope it helps!

Great idea! I'm sure the BMS will handle the over-charge and over-discharge protection. If you are interested in BMS, please take a look on my videos introducing BMS modules. - 2S BMS : kzbin.info/www/bejne/rp7UYZufaN-HnbM - 4S BMS : kzbin.info/www/bejne/d2PJY4CGf5ydh7c Thanks!

Can I charge AA/A battery with this module from 5V source like portable solar panel?
@maximkonechno8742

it is step down module. If your panel outputs more then 5v then you can do it. Not sure how stable is panel output tho would not risk connecting directly.

Hi, this video was intended to show a different way to charge a Lithium polymer battery. And yes, you can definitely use TP4056 for charging these batteries as well. Please refer to the link below for charging Lithium polymer batteries with TP4056. Thank you for watching!!

According to your explanations, LM2596 should be cut off the energy when the current lower than the thresold which is 58 mA but it doesn't cut off the energy. And the output current of the 2-pot charger was still showed on the multimeter... Why? is your charger (3-pot one) defective or is it normal?
@gemsungelectronics460
@gemsungelectronics460 Жыл бұрын
Hello, the 3-Pot LM2596 module doesn't provide automatic cut-off feature. Instead, it shows whether the load current is above or below the threshold controlled by the 2nd potentiometer. You need to add extra circuitry to this module for automatic cut-off feature. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Thank you for watching!

Is there a way to add automatic switch off feature ?
@gemsungelectronics460
@gemsungelectronics460 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, One way I think possible is to lift up the on/off pin of the LM2596, and connect this to pin7 of lm358 op-amp. By doing this, charging may not start automatically, and you might need to manually force on the lm2596 when you start charging. I haven't tried it myself yet, but if you are willing to try, please share the result, and let me know if you have any trouble. Thanks!

@@gemsungelectronics460 Hello, this indeed was my idea: use a NO/NC microswitch connected to pin7 , the (lifted) on/off pin of LM2596 and ground. A push of the switch starts the charging, which is automatically swithed off when the ok light turns on. It works perfect : the normally 10% value of the middle pot (set with a new module) can perfectly be changed to manipulate the stop criterium, eg 15% for a longer battery life or 5% for a stronger charge. grts rik
