Using an LM2596S Module (buck converter) to Balance Charge a Battery Pack With No BMS
Hello and Welcome to my New Channel (Outside In) and Presence on KZbin. I have been dreaming of starting a KZbin channel for a very long time but wasn't sure what I could bring to the table that hasn't already been done.
I suddenly realized last week that I was thinking the wrong way about this, and after being inspired by a video that I watched "Antony Cartwright Turorial about LM2596S" • TUTORIAL: About & How ... - I decided it was my time to make my mark. I suddenly knew that what I had to offer was being able to create content that would help others in many more ways than just ONE... What I love to do best - is summed up in a few words - Teaching, Researching, Troubleshooting problems, DIY Projects, Reviewing Products, Discussions on many topics...
...And since I do so many things, why not create a channel that covers ALL aspects of who I am and what I stand for LOL.. I look forward to growing with you, and the best way for me to accomplish that task is to just throw caution to the wind and put myself out there...
I have learned SO VERY much over the years from many KZbinr's, and I decided to finally give something back to the community that has blessed me so much with knowledge over the years, and that knowledge I would have not gained in any other way - You guys are the best, and I only hope that some day I can come close to the incredible job all of you do.
Please forgive me for all the mistakes that I am about to make as I get started with my channel, and leave comments of what you would like to see. My goal is to cover many topics from DIY projects, Tutorials, Reviewing products, Troubleshooting, Repair, Software instruction, Photography, Videography etc., etc.. The second video I am getting ready to upload, is a discussion based on this channel, how the name came about, my plans for this channel, my goals with this channel, and why I am so excited to be now a part of the KZbin family and community.
I thank you for stopping by and if I can be of assistance to you, please leave a comment on how I can help, and I will get started on another video.

Thank you Steven, very informative, you are man of great enthusiasm! ;) So far i did simple charger for Bosch 12v battery without balance board, using LM2596 and mine have vol and amp pot without middle one, and 1 led that show red-blue light so when it is full i just switch of by myself. So I'm just charge it simple way cus original battery is just 3 in series without bms in. Later plan is that i print battery pack so i can put additional terminals for balance charging. It will not be easy as I'm stuck with tricky precise spring thin sheet to bent as contact terminal(for thermistor, so that battery is detected by tool circuit) which is hard to find for now. Btw i read somewhere that if you connect green light positive and LM2596 pin 5 (ON/OFF), it will switch off when battery is charged, but haven't tried it yet. Keep good work for all of us enthusiast-geeks and others in need to go deeper in everything ;)

Thank you Nikola for the kind words... The modules I have are not genuine and don't have the on/off you speak of, so can't check that it will turn off bms when charged, plus my charged light stays on constantly so for me - it wouldn't make a difference LOL.. I would like to try and help you resolve your issue of not having your charger any longer by adding a bms lead. Maybe I can find the same drill that you have for sale, buy it and give it a go and let you know. Could you tell me the model number of your drill so I can find the exact one you have for testing?. I would love to help you and also it would give me another video to make to add here for others that may be going through the same issue..

@@Outside-In. ON/OFF is pin 5 on LM2596 so it needs to be soldered to + on green led so when green led go high, it switch of lm2596. If i understand it correctly from other guy :) And about drill, its blue Bosch gsr 120-li and there is other similar models and other Bosch tools that use 10.8/12v battery. Battery that i have is GBA 12v 2.0Ah. I'm very satisfied with this little drill and power is enough for my needs. You can find it cheap (without battery/charger) i'm sure! If you buy it etc, ask if you need any info on battery and my research or/end model i created in solidworks etc. Keep good work!

@@NikolaM021 Thanks for the clarification on pin 5, but like I said this would do me no good as my green light stays on constantly even if the battery is discharged, so connecting/soldering a wire to the green led would be of no use on my modules... I have looked on eBay and can't find any of your drills used, and new ones are as high as 200.00 which is crazy - I don't have that kind of money LOL... I did find a charger for your drill but even that was 49.99. I will have to wait awhile before I could afford to make the investment - sorry - I wish I could help. I guess I was expecting that the drill was older and could pick up a used one for a few bucks but I guess not.. I will let you know if I am able to find something.

@@NikolaM021 Nikola, I thought that I would let you know, I found a drill with battery & charger to purchase, and once I have received the package, I will work on figuring out a way to do what you need, and let you know of the results, and will also be creating a video with my result to your problem.

@@Outside-In. Great, looking forward to it!! Its actually not a problem that i have, just a tricky way to do it: creating 3d print package (what i already did), finding tricky metal contacts for NTC sensing and packing everything in that small space! I suppose it would be easier to use original battery and put additional lead for balance charge and I will probably try that out by simply adding additional 2 pins (for balance charge) on bottom of battery or where i find space for it. Next i will add bms board to my 3d printed charger and then i have regular 2 terminal + - (that battery already have) and then connect small cable with connector to additional 2 pins on battery bottom. Hope I'm clear ;)
