There's nothing really special about the components of a level 2 charger systen, they are essentially identical, at least the name, to the components of a level 1 charger system. The difference is that most of the level one components are already installed in the average house however the level two components are usually not installed unless someone has specifically hired an electrician to do that. The only thing I would consider special about level 2 Chargers, is not the charger itself it's the ability of your existing electrical service to handle the load. Although we only have 100 amp panel in our house our panel and its existing handle the level 2 charger we just got installed. The reason for this is all of are stove dryer hot water tank and house heating are all on natural gas. So there was very little load on the 100 amp panel, so little that we just put in a 60 amp level 2 charger with no issue, and yes, we did it with an electrical permit. Unfortunately this is not going to be the case for most people's houses. And my recommendation is not to upgrade your service, which is likely what you will have to do. I would recommend, if you have access to Natural Gas to change your appliances to Natural Gas. Then you may not need to upgrade your service. Anyways getting back to reality, you'll likely have to upgrade your service and put the proper size wiring, breakers, Outlet Etc in to accommodate the level two. But again there's nothing special about these components. You have similar components, perhaps not as heavy duty, if you have an electric dryer and an electric range and especially an electric hot water tank already. Mark Henry
