Thanks a bunch. I had 2 old phones that I was just going to trade in for some credit but it used proprietary charging cables from the 90s which I have lost. Using this method; I managed to boot the phones up enough to trade in. One tip; the battery warms up REALLY quickly, so I put it on a power bar and cycled it on for 2-5 min charge with rest in between so it could cool down. I had a non-contact thermometer I used to ensure the battery temp stayed below 35 degrees celsius as well (or just feel it and turn it off when warm). Still a dangerous method; but it worked for me. Do not use this on a regular basis. Be prepared for thermal runaway (I had the phone in a pyrex container and was watching it constantly to be ready to throw it out the door.

5 ⭐'s My husband's lg stylo won't charge at all due to a broken charger port and we thought our only option was to buy a separate battery w/charging dock for the battery itself. But an hour after ordering the battery & charging dock I came across this video and figured I'd give it a try while I was waiting for the order to come in the mail. Well to my surprise it worked and it worked better than a regular charger. Within a half hour this method charged my husband's phone to over 70% from being completely dead where we couldn't even get it to power up for even second. Thank you so much now my husband will be able to use his phone while waiting on the new battery & charging dock to come in the mail.

You might want to warn people about the fire/explosion risk they run if the wires short to the positive and negative ports, not to mention the potential damage to the USB charger or device it's being plugged in to. Otherwise, it's a good way to get out of a bind temporarily.

I can vouch for this, took an old broken charger (wires were cut somewhere inside along its second half) and wired it up like in the video. Not sure if this differs from battery to battery, but although the charging was quick, (17% in the matter of 2-4 minutes) the drop off was exceedingly quick as well. Going from 17% to 7 within 10-15 minutes. This works if you need to make one or a couple of calls. But I'm not quite sure if it damaged my battery or not.It was an old battery none the less so about time for an upgrade. TL;DR Only do this if you need to get in contact with someone, or if you want to tell some people that you won't be reachable via phone until you get a new one or it repaired.

Please don't do this! Li-pol batteries must be charged in very specific way using voltage and current limitation. Circuits in your phone do this, not the charger itself. Doing it this way you are bypassing those circuits and applying unregulated 5 Volts directly to your battery. It will destroy your battery quickly and there is also a risk of fire or explosion. Li-pol batteries are very vulnerable.
@ParosPasxaRide7 жыл бұрын

It works but I have few issues with this method. I think the same could be achieved in a more safe way and be used with modern phones as well. So I'll comment even though it's a really old video. A full batter is something like 4.3V and USB is 5V. This can cause two kinds of problems. The battery may overcharge which is pretty dangerous. But also depending on the phone you could break something as the phone doesn't expect to see 5V from the USB at the battery input. So to protect the phone I would remove/disconnect the battery and connect directly to it. You would still need to worry about overcharging and heat but you minimize the risk to the rest of the phone. A good method would be to use lab PSU instead of USB so that it would be possible to set the max voltage to 4.2 or 4.3 which would prevent overcharging. I would also set the max amps to 0.5 or so to just slow charge the battery. These batteries can usually take about 1-2A charging current but as there is no heat monitoring the slow charge will prevent any problems. As most of us don't have lab PSUs another way is to just use a low rating wall charger (1A or lower) to limit the charging current and only charge the battery to half full or so to minimize the risk of overcharging. So charge about hour at a time and check the battery level. When the battery is half full then don't charge any more.

Well my charge port doesn't work right I have to put my with the cord plugged in I have to l have to put it in s certain position for it to charge cause my phone won't charge just by putting my charge cord in

Yeah, that's how mine acted before it died. I would advice replacing the usb port at a phone store before using this method though. This is more of an emergency fix. Some phone's have non replaceable usb ports though.

and my battery symbols are on the phone and when i place it, it looks like it shows the 1st and 3rd pin. should i still use 1st and 4th or use 3rd instead of 4th pin
@luppien8 жыл бұрын
In this case use the 3d. You need to use the one that conducts the power.

What if you can't open the phone and take the battery out like most new phones these days??? Any way to do this ??lmk
@luppien7 жыл бұрын
+Jonathan Truncellito It's becoming a larger problem lately but if you can open the Phone with a plier tool this method still works but i won't recommend it. I guess it starts to get outdated though there Are still plenty of phones releasing with a removable battery.
