Bert uses the Fieldpiece JobLink probes to charge an older R22 Piston system to the proper Target Superheat quickly and easily. So whether you are wanting to know "The right way to charge an air conditioner with Freon" or you have more refined interest in how to use wet bulb temperature to calculate the target superheat, this video has you covered.

if the system was off how would air get in the system? looked like the system was off, he purged the hoses after he connected to the refrigerant tank.

Guys, come on! This video’s purpose is to teach techs how to charge a unit with job link probes... the video’s purpose is NOT to teach proper procedures when dealing with a unit low on charge.

The way you bled the hose before adding freon didn't look right. Hate to be like everyone else and judge every little dumb thing when you're just trying to prove your point but some viewer's are watching with very little experience. Your valves were open on the system and at the tank when you bled your hose, so any air was already pushed into the system. Good video otherwise👍🏻👍🏻

HVACR Survival Maybe the service valve was front seated? With his set up that’s the only way I saw how he could have bled the hose correctly,Or if he did it before he hooked the charging T up.I doubt it since the service valve cap was on.. I’m newish so what I said was probably wrong 😁

No, air didn't go into the system. The system is under pressure, probably at least 50 psi even when off. The air was pushed out of the hose by the refrigerant (and the system if the schrader was depressed), around the male end of the tee / service port, and into the atmosphere.

One thing you might want to add is that You may want to find the source to why the system is low on charge to begin with before adding. Also when we need to charge using super heat with fixed device how important is our sub cool? Next video? Thanks

Just a question, if I bought that kit and added a 3rd psychrometer probe to measure the outdoor dry bulb at the condenser, would the app automatically calculate the dry bulb from that probe to calculate target SH, or do you have to enter DB manually like you did? I'm just debating whether to buy the extra psycrometer probe or not... Thanks.

Yes. Because the r400 series are a mixture and the different components evaporate at different temps. So it needs to be used as a liquid.

Always as a liquid for 410a. Loading as a vapor is as bad as loading the wrong refrigerant(which is technically true).

Excellent video we need more videos like this to inspire and show the young technicians just coming into the field how to use tools so they’re not intimidated. The only problem My son and I have the Fieldpiece sensor kit and the range sucks (“ unless it’s a simple wooden structure for the signal to go through the walls it does not matter how far sensors will connect in open free air with no obstacles in between at line of sight in the real world we don’t work with in line of sight”!.) in the past several months I use them every day or try to the buildings with brick or concrete walls or just one floor with a concrete floor below you spend more time trying to connect the signal move your phone around or move your senses around if you had to charge by the hour while fiddling with the Fieldpiece software you to go bankrupt first in the real world. But I do like them for simple close proximity jobs I give them a thumbs up in that situation just waiting for them to come out with some better range in depth to penetrate walls in commercial buildings and office buildings. Until then I would wait before purchasing the sensors until they come out with the next generation then I’ll give them a try once again. For those Techs who purchase the Fieldpiece sensors a little word of advice for some reason the Fieldpiece sensors do not always work very well with the Fieldpiece software download the Measure Quick software and that usually fixes fieldpiece sensors problem with connectivity and reliability issues.

Good stuff 👍 I've recently wanted to learn the difference again between checking suction pipe temp/ superheat at compressor vs evaporator.. with the new probes, it seems more possible to check at evaporator, but why again?
@tonymckay9031
@tonymckay9031 5 жыл бұрын
I suppose at evaporator would just be more accurate statement of what work the evaporators doing. And at the compressor would just be to make sure no liquid comes to the compressor. And then I suppose some manufacturers might specify if they want it at the evaporator or compressor

Your comment about the 0 superheat at the evap coil is wrong. The evap coil in flooded at 0 super heat therefore refrigerant is NOT evaporating in the coil. Also the way you were bleeding your charge line is wrong. You should have bled at your bottle with its valve closed. Your line was hooked up to the system that already had charge in it which would have pushed air in the line to the bottle.
@Triaz357
@Triaz357 5 жыл бұрын
The bottles have check valves. You can’t push air into them. Or refrigerant for that matter. And yes a 0 superheat evap coil would be the most efficient, but you would have no protection from the compressor slugging. Just like he said.
@jasonsherrill3518
@jasonsherrill3518 5 жыл бұрын
@@Triaz357 you are missing his point as to why the tank valve should've been closed. Sure, it has a check valve and thus no air or refrigerant can enter the tank. His point was that the valve at the tank should be closed in order to be able to bleed the air out of the lines at the tank. Instead, you tried to bleed air at the unit from the pressure of the open tank. Sadly, this same pressure from the open tank already pushed any air in the lines into the system.

Was the unit valved off before he purged the lines? It looked like the schraeder valve core was already depressed when he purged the charging hose. If the unit’s pressure was less than the charging tank pressure from say the tank being stored in a hot truck, then the air in the charging hose would have been forced through the open schraeder valve into the unit’s system before he purged the line.
