I am a bike commuter, but have been thinking about camping for a while. U guys helped a lot with those ideas, I didn't even know about the dynamo before. I will make a few short trips before the dynamo though as I don't enjoy getting everything before a trip

I do bike touring only from spring to autumn, having no dynamo hub, I am glad with my 15W solar panel. Even in cloudy conditions it delivers more power I ever need - but I am not filming and I have no drone.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I always wonder about solar power chargers and I think that in Canada, they may not be as effective as they could be elsewhere (with more sun). I'm opting for Anker chargers and am glad to hear they've been working for you as well.

Thanks for all the info this is the sort of info. people don’t mention. The dynamo charger is that something you had fitted as most bikes don’t have dynamos and mine doesn’t.

We added the “SON 28” dynamos ourselves to the front wheels. There are also great dynamos by Shimano and other brands though. And then we added the B+M “USB-Werk” chargers to the bikes.

You should look in to geting iPad pro you can easy edit with LumaFusion. And can charge from battery bank or solar or hub

Super interesting, thank you, I've made several chargers for my hub dynamos, the latest of which has a built in battery bank with digital readout of voltage and current ,for touring in the South of France, but with the dynamo only giving out 3 watts, have found that an Anker solar panel (like yours, but with only 2 panels) will charge in a couple of hours, what takes a 50 - 60 mile ride, This is, needless to say in good summer sunlight. This also gives me the advantage of riding with lights on in the daytime for safety.( I only need to charge an iPhone ) keep up the good work, stay safe!

My backpack trips are 10 days long with electricity from a small 2W solar panel to charge 2 phones, headphones and headlamp. Each day when I hike, the panel sits on top of my backpack, to charge a 2000mAh power bank which charges the phone at the same time. The panel + bank weigh 6 oz. Most new power bank has this pass-through capability. Perhaps you can try the same setup with your devices and see if you can survive without needing to plug into the mains.

We have gone several days / weeks without needing a mains outlet, and that’s been good enough for us. Never had a situation where we’ve run out of juice. 😅

Yea, we realized the video was getting very long so we left it out. It uses AA batteries so doesn’t need to be charged! 😅

That's one COOL SHIRT! Also, thank you very much for explaining this thoroughly! In my preparation, I'm leaning toward a power bank only solution. What you said about not using the solar panel much, never fully exhausting the power bank, and only powering the phone and headlight with the dynamo makes me think that this is a reasonable approach. If your phone retains charge well and there is a separate charger that can power your headlight, you may also be able to get away with not having the dynamo and the solar panel. But since you already have them... I'm looking to upgrade all my charging systems to 65W USB-C fast charging if possible. It may not work with some things like the drone or Sony camera.

It does have some resistance, but nothing that can be felt while cycling, only when turning the wheel by hand.

Did you try charging a phone with USB-C? USB-Werk worked with my old phone (Micro-USB), I shortly tried it with an iPhone but it doesn't with my Samsung phone. It seems to be able to charge a power bank but I have to use it longer to see how well that works. BTW when the battery in the USB-Werk dies: B&M told me that they use LiFePo. I replaced them with two cylindrical cells.

We haven’t tried a phone with USB-C, but our GoPros, which have USB-C. Otherwise only our iPhones with Lightning. But it shouldn’t make a difference which connector.

To be honest we don’t really like affiliate links. They tend to expire over time (and nothing is more annoying than expired links) and don’t really bring much income, as far as we have heard / seen. Currently not worth it in our opinion.
