Excellent video!!!! Quick question... You probably clean your solar panels from time to time. But, do you ever wax them or put any type of polymer protection on them to help keep them cleaner???

Brad hello from South Texas, hey brother do you have an automatic transfer switch on your rig? What do you think about them. Thank you
@nomadbrad503
@nomadbrad503 9 күн бұрын
I don’t need an automatic transfer switch because I custom built my system. Transfer switches are a must have for adding inverters to RV’s . I have installed them before, they’re very simple to install

Hey Brad 👋 quick question…. I bought two 100ah SOK lithium batteries for my truck camper and since have realized it’s not enough power reserve but the batteries I bought haven’t been available to re-buy since I bought them from Amazon. Not sure if they discontinued them or what 🤷 I’m a fellow tuber and get offers for batteries all the time but my question is do I need to totally replace my entire battery bank with new batteries or can I just add a couple more batteries of a different brand? Side note the SOK batteries are 1.5 years old now. Thanks so much 🤙
@nomadbrad503
@nomadbrad503 5 күн бұрын
you shouldnt mix lithium batteries because the BMS are different. I would sell your SOK and try to get a company to send you 2x 200ah batteries for free then buy more of the same if you want

For LiFePO4 You can safely parallel different brands as long as the voltage and the chemistry (i.e. "LiFePO4") is the same. Differences in age and cycle wear don't effect the voltage curves for LiFePO4 like it would for other lithium or lead-acid chemistries, it only effects the capacity. You can parallel-connect LiFePO4 bateries of the same voltage but different capacities, but it isn't ideal. The batteries will current-share and develop a slight SOC offset from each other, but othrewise work. Same with paralleling slightly differently aged batteries, or batteries from different vendors (that have different internal resistances). Not ideal but it works quite well, the batteries will current-share in proportion to their capacities, and just develop a slight SOC offset relative to each other. Also keep in mind that LiFepO4 battery cells basically don't wear out... getting a 15-year service life out of these batteries is easy when they aren't abused. The power electronics in the BMS will kick the bucket before the cells do. For LiFePO4 a 1.5 year old battery might as well be brand new. Series-connecting batteries from different vendors is a bit more problematic, but nothing terrible will happen as long as the total voltage is within vendor specs for series connections.... typically the series limit is up to four 4s (12.8V) LiFePO4 batteries, or two 25.6V batteries, or just one 51.2V battery. You do need to use a whole-battery balancer when series-connecting two or more 12.8V LiFePO4 batteries, which complicates matters slightly. This is why most people designing 25.6V or 51.2V nominal systems purchase native 25.6V or 51.2V batteries rather than series-connecting 12.8V batteries. -Matt

Brad, u couldnt use all 4 batteries in parallel so you have more power storage?
@nomadbrad503
@nomadbrad503 9 күн бұрын
No. It is not a good idea to mix lithium battery brands because they have different BMS modules which can cause problems

Not at all! Enjoybot asked me to try out their batteries so I swapped out my old ones and sold them to an install client for a very good price. I was very happy with the timeusb batteries and the Enjoybot batteries are also very good.

Make sure you are properly charging the battery. LiFePO4 batteries will go out of balance if not at least occasionally charged to full. For a 12.8V battery that means the charge profile should be (roughly): * Bulk target 14.2V * Absorb: Hold 14.2V for between 30 minutes and 2 hours (allows the BMS to balance the cells internally) * Float and/or load-support: Between 13.4V and 13.5V (SOC will maintain 99%+ indefinitely when floated in this range after fully charging, with less stress on the battery due to the relaxed voltage). (multiply by 2x for 24V 8s systems, and by 4x for 48V 16s systems). (12V aka 12.8V nominal, 24V aka 25.6V nominal. 48V aka 51.2V nominal) Even the worst LiFePO4 batteries basically don't degrade unless the charging profile is mis-configured and even then it is usually just balancing so you'll recover all the capacity within a few cycles once you have a proper charge profile programmed. The only way to really destroy a LiFePO4 battery is by charging it below freezing or discharging it below 2.5V/cell (such as discharging to BMS cut-off and then putting the battery on a shelf for a few months... that will damage the battery as self-discharge takes the cells below 2.5V/cell). -Matt
