I’ve been using Zwift for 5 years, absolutely love it and enjoy the competitive side but I’ve never felt the urge to join a race. I prefer the Zwift event rides where you can ride as fast or slow as you like and know when you’ve improving. I understand people want to race and compete against their peers on an equal footing but it’s never going to be equal unless in a sanctioned event using controlled hardware like the Zwift Academy finalists or e World Champs. Your video explained Zpower and wheel on trainer power reporting inaccuracies but you just need to see FB for posts of people climbing AdZ in near pro athletes times and the flaming wars they start. It’s a difficult nut to crack and an interesting one for Zwift as they don’t want to alienate any of their customer base. Thanks for the content.👏

Hi Shane. Thanks again for watching and commenting and I am more personally aligned to your view. I really like training. I'm currently spending more time of late on RGT and often miss the Zwift group ride banter. Then again, I'm currently riding rollers and don't have the skills to banter on any app! I'll do a follow-up to this video soon and maybe try and get people to think more about being true to themselves for training and progression? Ride on.

Great topic and I have been a huge supporter of this transparency. I didn't even know about the FB group for volunteered transparency. Cheers for that.

Regarding turbo trainers. My tacx flux is 10% higher than my infocrank dual sided power meter. Though I only use my trainer for resistance and use my PM for actual power
@Titaniumgeek3 жыл бұрын
We've recently written an article on the website. The whole power meter accuracy thing is marketing over substance. Our advice is to use the same calibrated PM indoor as outdoors. Unless you never go out :). Thanks ever so for watching.

Why on earth would someone sit there and use a gaming pad to race.. aren’t there enough gaming consoles out there already to have fun with. Seems very odd to me. I’d say I’m quite competitive, and will always use ever ounce of energy to finish well. I use dual power sources, digital weight etc, and when I started using Zwift, I chose B cat, and quickly Zwift(+Zpower) bumped me into A cat, which I didn’t mind but I was ending up finishing no where lol, psychologically it got to me. Then I realised it’s just a gaming platform, to enjoy and improve personal fitness. Anyone who cheats on there, only are cheating themselves.. eventually they get found out. Lol. Cheating on Zwift has become a very interesting debate, a hot topic on FB WTRL Zwift. This vid has me in two minds, A) it’ gives those cheats more ways to continue but B) informs us how to spot a cheat too. Other than that, great content and well put together vid! Ride on 👍

Thanks for watching and great comments. A cat is impressive, Trying to work out why people cheat could make you go mad. I hear that the Cycling Tips podcast are trying to workout why people do it. There is talk of people at the top level even trying to edit their dual power data - it's mad and thank goodness Zwift catch them. Ride on.

You didn't mention using electric bikes on wheel on trainers, or using TWO magnets to apparently double wheel speed, but otherwise a good summary 👍

So many ways to cheat and they are all crazy!

Surely, David, this subject needs no more airtime? You should really retitle this as "Why You Shouldn't Cheat on Zwift" or "How to Identify Cheaters on Zwift" and not how to achieve it yourself.

A very fair point Richard and thanks for watching and commenting. Such is the nature of KZbin, it seems that we have to 'click-bate' and then create the debate in the way in which we would prefer it to go. Personally, I deplore it and I hope, in some, way that people become more educated and introspective and aim for better personal data. I mean, how can anyone properly fitness train when their data is all over the place (from one session to the next, for example?). Point taken and I'll record a follow-up to this. Ride on.

@@Titaniumgeek thanks for your reply, David. Really enjoy your work and approach to all your projects. My comment doesn’t sound very supportive. Thank you for taking my comment as it was meant. 👍🏻🙏

@@Titaniumgeek yup, lots of fluids. My body type is aerodynamic, so I can climb at 60kph. I'm most honest person in the world.

Little point complaining about a game not being like real life cycling when it has the ability to set your trainer diffuculty built into it, you can't just reduce the gradient of a hill in real life...it's not even attempting to be like real life. If you're choosing to do races for your training, you're still just training, you're not winning races. If what everyone else is doing is the focus of your training session, then you're focusing on entirely the wrong thing. Zwift is fooling itself, or its patrons... If it thinks it's a tool for serious racing capabilities, the tool for that would be a machine with a piece of software that's not compatible with anything else so everyone is using the same technology. Zwift could host, Tacx neo only races, or wahoo kicker only races etc, remove trainer difficulty settings, and keep w/kg in the real world where gravity matters, that would be a step in the right direction, lungs and leg power vs lungs and leg power.

Hi Fergus and thanks for watching and great comments. Zwift clearly have one thing in mind - an exit (a sale) and you can't blame them. They innovated this whole new cycling eSports. The issue is that the technology has moved on and other platforms, with smaller teams and budgets seem to be doing it better.

The whole zwift racing is cheating fake cat's and when I'm drafting I'm putting more power out then the person on the front but don't overtake just sit there putting more power out
@Titaniumgeek3 жыл бұрын
I know someone who has run experiments by putting out the power and then on the next lap, keeping the power down. Both attempts resulted in the same position on the road and the same average speed. It seems that they are playing with the visible positioning and not the fundamentals of the draft. I reckon this is why those with experience of racing outdoors are moving to RGT. Thanks ever so for watching.
@brulsmurf3 жыл бұрын
you are putting out more w/kg maybe. not more absolute watts.
