he literally said its not proper and you should still test it w a gauge then do a leak down which is the actual way to do it but this is a good test to see lets say you bought a junkyard motor do this and you will see at least what your working with off the bat if it has zero compression somewhere this test will show that you dont need to bust out the gauge. yurp ik im smart🗣️

When the piston rises to begin the compression stroke the exhaust valve is still open for a short time , thats whats blowing the caps out of the head. I wouldn't consider this test to amount to anything significant enough that i would use to determine if the engine is worthy of investing 10+ hours of labor installing into a car

I hope you checked the rod bearings on that 2.4 before installing it. Hyundais biggest downfall was there engines.

We still have my wifes high school kia lol its a 2010 forte and its at 317k. I use it for doordash. only had to change the ac compressor and the water pump and the oil and wheel bearings i just recently did the struts and shocks and motor mounts. But she got it at 30k miles back in 2012. I drive the piss out of it.
