You also need to clean the probe leads that plug into the meter and the meter contacts as well.

Oga Piyke! How do I become a good DIYer. What tools cam I begin with. My goal is to be able to diagnose and fix my car's minor issue.

Good intentions. 14 years ago, I knew nothing about cars. Absolutely nothing. Was forced into DIY because of quack mechanics. Just start small. I started by changing my engine oil. Oil filter wrench, size 17 wrench and I was good. You'll need to add support stands though. I basically researched a fix online, watched videos, read up a repair manual, added the missing tools needed to complete the task to my small collection, and then did the fix. The size of wrenches you should get depends on the car e.g., for Honda 10, 12, 14, 17 and 19mm wrenches will get you through most basic tasks. There's also a lot of little maintenance items that don't need that much in terms of tools e.g. Changing cabin and engine air filters, cleaning MAF sensors etc. If you can, get a Haynes or Chilton repair manual for your car. It helps build confidence. The watch a lot of videos on the procedure you want to attempt before getting started. Finally, never panic or rush a task. All the best!
