Good video. You mentioned pinion angle being low as if that is a bad thing. Less than 10* to the drive shaft is what you want as long as your pinion angle is close to your TC output shaft angle so they cancel each other out without too much u-joint movement (less than 10* should be fine.).

I have a 2003 grand cherokee laredo, with a 2.5 lift, stock driveshafts and control arms 98k miles and what should it be? I get a bad vibration at 60 and I'm looking into the driveshaft and peaked my interest because just last week i started hearing a ujoint click, if I'm on a flat surface doing 60-70 nothing, hit a bump i feel the vibration you get before death wobble occurs but it's not deathwobble.. when i coast from 70, the vibration gets worse as it slows down and goes away at 45, then back at 55 the vibration occurs, let the jeep sit and rest and the problem is gone.. i don't know what gives me more of a headache, my girlfriend or my jeep..

Hey bud, great video. I just install a 4.5 inch long arm on a 2001 xj. Stock Dana 30 and stock driveshaft. What should my caster be in relation to my pinion?
@JKGearandGadgets6 жыл бұрын
Been a while since I messed with XJs, but on a xj you’ll want the pinion angle to be pretty good with the driveshaft. So you’ll probably be around 3* and 3*

It all depends on your lift height and driveshaft type. You can’t have a 0* pinion angle on a tall lifted jeep otherwise you’ll get driveline vibrations. What axle you do have?

@JKGearandGadgets4 жыл бұрын
It’s a mix of caster and pinion angle, add as much caster as you can without getting pinion angle vibrations. With a 4.5” lift you will probably max out around 4-4.5* caster

I'm checking my caster.It looks like Im at 10 degrees, from a local 4x4 shop that just set it up. It's wondering left to right going down the road. If I understand it right, I need 4-6 degrees? The math comes out, as I measure the pinion at 4 degrees. That puts me at a difference of 6 degrees on my Gladiator.
@JKGearandGadgets Жыл бұрын
There is only 6* of separation on the stock axle. If your pinion is at 4* then you have 2* of caster which is horrible
@clifblake Жыл бұрын
@@JKGearandGadgets sounds like I don't understand 6 degrees of separation yet. I can't be measuring correctly. I'm getting a caster measurement of 8-9, and a pinion of 1-2 degrees. Ill watch more videos to try and see what IM doing wrong.

I'm running a 3" EVO lift with lower adj control arms. I put in the Adams 1310 driveshaft and just put new 37" Yokos which smoothed out the ride a lot! I am still getting a little bit of vibration. Not much, but I'm trying to dial it in. My CAs are as short as I can get them. My pinion angle is at 0. My caster is 6.5 degrees. My driveshaft is at about a 5 degree upward angle. Any thoughts on what I could do to eliminate the last of the vibration? I have the Steer Smarts Yeti track bar, draglink, and steering stabilizer.
@JKGearandGadgets6 жыл бұрын
Did the vibration start when you got the new shaft? If you are running the factory front axle then 6.5* caster is too much, actually puts your pinion angle at -.5*. Since your arms are as short as they can get then you can’t make any more pinion angle adjustments. My recommendations are this: remove shaft to verify you are getting a shaft related vibe, make sure the yokes to the axle and tcase are torqued to correct spec, get adjustable upper control arms and set them longer than stock in order to bring your pinion angle up untill the vibes stop, then play around to get a good caster/no vibe medium.
@beauch1126 жыл бұрын
Yes that's when it started. One of my buddies recommended that I take the shaft off. I did, there was no vibration, so I'm sure that's what is causing it. I re-took measurements last night. My caster is actually 6 degrees, maybe leaning towards 5.5* and pinion is 0*. The angle on the TC is 0* as well, so the shaft should be turning at the same speed since the angles are even on both sides. When I had the shaft off, I re-torqued the large yoke nut, and the other four bolts. The rep from Adams mentioned I might have to get adjustable uppers.I was hoping to avoid that lol. I'm nitpicking here since the vibration is so minor, but I can feel it just a little right under my feet when I'm driving. I guess the next box to check is getting the upper CA's and see what happens. Thanks for replying so fast!
@JKGearandGadgets6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I would do the uppers, while the vibration might be minimal and not bother you too much, it can eventually lead to failure of your tcase output bearings.

Okay sounds good. I guess I'm gonna piss the wife off with another Jeep order!!! Thanks for the help!

Okay I just installed a pair of Rock Krawler adjustable uppers. The vibration is mostly gone! However, I am pulling to the left pretty bad now, so I took caster angle measurements and I'm at -4* on the drivers side and positive 3.5* on the passenger side. With the lowers it was pretty straight forward how to adjust. With the uppers, I'm not sure. I know it's damn near impossible without looking at it, but any ideas?
