Hey, thanks for taking the time to do this. I found a gigantic leak in my air injection tube that nobody cold tell me how to fix. On the downside, my 4 cylinder toyota pickup now sounds like a normal car instead of a 8 cylinder diesel. All it took was one little gasket. Thanks man!

Great tip about vacuum/soapy water. I was able to find exhaust leaks on a car with this method. No need for $1000 smoke machine and other expensive equipment.

THATS JUST FRICKEN AWESOME.....AS SMART AS I AM I WOULD NEVER THINK TO DO THAT.......WONDER IF YOU COULD LIGHT OFF A SMOKE BOMB IN THE SHOP VAC AND MAKE SMOKE HELP FIND THE LEAKS? AWESOME VID MAN!

Hi thanks for the great method to find a leak. I had the same problem but went about it in my own Kiwi method. I found my Makita hot air gun was the best, I turned the heat right down and the nozzle fitted straight into the tailpipe worked a treat.

Great idea. I used it to find my exhaust leak on a 2007 Nissan Titan. It worked great! Thank you.

LOL! Yea, seeing oil burning would have been a serious gut check! At first, I did try the smoke machine, but that poor thing, even with shop air, wasn't producing enough smoke to get past the muffler. But it was still fun hunting them down, I brought my 3 year old son out in between videos, and he had a blast spraying the soap water...needless to say, some parts of the truck are nice and clean! :)

Thanks for this video. I was dreading trying to poke around for a leak while the motor was on, but this shop vac idea is great.

Pretty slick idea with the shop vac!

LOL! Thank you sir, it saved a TON of time hunting those leaks down, and only the cost of a few drops of dawn soap and some water. The smoke bomb is an interesting idea, if it didn't work, it sure would make a neat mess! :)

This is an awesome idea, I never thought of doing it that way, but, will be doing it for sure with my trucks!

I'm surprised you didnt use your smoke machine! Great job on finding the leaks.....a lot better than waiting for a cold morning or just waiting until it starts burning oil one day to see smoke ;) lol

Those flex joints on exhausts are 99% the cause of leaks. I just replaced the flex pipe on my car. Instead of using soap i just idled the car and held a piece of paper next to the flex. You will see the paper blowing and carbon on the paper.

? Any reason to worry about the catalytic convertor failing due to forcing air the opposite way ?

My 2003 dakota 4.7 has a leak on the passenger side where the exhaust manifold flange is bolted up to the rest of the pipe, but there isn't any kind of gasket in there. Is there supposed to be one?

hay man nice vid. you could probably answer this. i just recently baught a holden commodore 1984 vk model station wagon. it has had the who exhaust system replace apart from the manifold and down pipe and has not catalytic converter. my car every time you rev it blows smoke. ive check coolant/water, oil, all gaskets and even valves and pistons and also injectors on it. would having no catalytic converter be the source of my blowing smoke?

QUESTION: Would a leak like that cause a 0430 code or does that code mean a certain dead cat? Could a leak hurt a cat if so does that mean i have 2 problems. a leak and a bad cat?? It's for a QX56.

Do you have the 5.2 or 5.9? That actually isn't too bad for a Ram. They are not known for great gas mileage. But an exhaust can make a small different

Thats awesome I have a engine light on and autozone told me its an exhaust leak. Will an exhaust leak really affect your mpg? I have a 01 Dodge ram 1500 XLT with 200k miles on it, I know it should be getting better than 11-12 mpg right

Did it sound like the leak was comming from the passanger side? Is that why you checked there first? And after tightening some of the bolts did you notice a difference?

Old video but still brilliant Idea. Thanks for posting! Just tried this to find an intermittant tick sound . Saw many tiny bubbles similar to your video . (on several/all? ports.) Installed exhaust gaskets (2001 dodge 5.9 gas comes factory without exhaust manifold gaskets .WTF?) tested again. Almost the same. (3500 Van so I get a good look at back and center ports) There was only these tiny bubbles with NO gasket when I first tried this, make me think the maniflod is not warped. Is it possible that this tiny leakage is normal? (this would be useful for others diagnosing problems)

Cant you just turn the car on and spray soap water?
@kevinbrink70352 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't have the same effect. With the car on, the exhaust exits freely with little resistance through the exhaust pipes. You may seem some bubbles, but with the shopvac, it forces more air through any openings as it faces resistance when it hits the engine.
