With my MY 17 gen1 D4 AWD (5 cyl) XC60 this procedure works well, thanks. On my vehicle the oil level does display the actual level across the 4 marker points on the gauge, not just full, low or OK.

Oh nice, thanks for the info. It's good that Volvo changed it up in the following years.

I'm so glad my 2014 S60 AWD has the T5 - 5 cylinder engine with a REAL dipstick. The 5 cyl Volvo engines are legendary. Why they shifted away from them I'll never understand. Electronic dipstick sucks!!

Agreed! Especially if you change your own oil or want to perform your own maintenance. These changes just make you more dependent on the dealerships.

I have yet to be able to check the oil in my 2015 S80 because my driveway is on a hill. I leveled the car on ramps with a spirit level today to change my trans fluid and just now was able to check the oil level. I really DO NOT like not having a dipstick!

hi i can’t check the level on my car cuz when the screm shows a oil level and them push to see a level do not change is like not available any ideas ? thanks

It's probably not in the correct mode. It needs to be in that special startup mode in order to see the oil life level.

I have a 2014 s60 the most basic model without a backup camera and it doesn’t display the oil life when I do your instructions any idea why it wouldn’t show?
@Frontlaven2 жыл бұрын
Is it greyed out? If so it really needs to be in that 'mode' by holding down the start button in the beginning of the vid.

as soon as i pressed start for 2 seconds the check engine light came up is that normal for checking the oil life?

I believe so. You need to start your car up in a mode that is not normal in order to see oil life

My oil light is grayed out and won’t let me click on it. It’s a 2015 xc60. Any ideas?

My only guess is that you're on in the special mode in the beginning. Car off, key in, hold down button, then start scrolling.

i always look for the icon that tells u the quality/color etc of the oil . joking of coarse. u can have oil with 25K in the engine but all is ok if its full . engineering wizardry . great video by the way !

In my case I found that the oil level option is faded and can't access to it, what does that mean?

If it's faded it means that the car needs to be in the special mode as shown in the video.

On my volvo oil level is inactive. How do i make it active to check the level? Thnx in advance.
@Frontlaven6 жыл бұрын
What shows up on the display? You have to get it in the correct "mode" by holding down the start button.
@cosssmyn6 жыл бұрын
by me its the same its not active
@donnsecrett40726 жыл бұрын
Aeros I thought it was inactive too but it wasn’t. Just make sure not to start the car. So leave your foot off the clutch if you have a manually shifted car. Make sure the car is in key position 2 by holding the button long enough for all the lights to pop on. Make sure the car hasn’t been running for at least 5 to 10 minutes. The oil symbol will be active. It isn’t “greyd out” anymore. Good luck!

Hey man u think it's worth it to buy 2015 s60 t5 premier all wheel drive with 22k miles for $23k?? It's used from certified dealer.
@Frontlaven7 жыл бұрын
Maybe. That price may be a bit high though. I got my Volvo a year ago for around that price. If I could do it over again I would totally recommend doing what you're thinking and getting it certified from the Dealer so that you can get the longer warranty on it. Lots of small electronic things will have problems FYI so best to make sure you're covered and will not pay out of pocket. But yeah just use Cars.com and shop around to see what ballpark prices are for certified S60s and see if you're getting a deal.
@rwolfson19356 жыл бұрын
Just purchased (3/18) a high milage (64,000) 2015.5 S60 for under $14,500. Carfax showed extremely well serviced: every oil change, brakes, rotors already done, points and plugs. Mileage was highway on corporate lease. I went ahead figuring the Volvo would last 200,000+ if this well cared for. I am amazed and in love with the car. Just under a month- everyone thinks it's brand new. Purchased from a dealership with perfect detailing.I was crazy OCD obsessive with looking. Probably put 600 miles on my old car and HOURS on the computer looking before finding this one. Also, remember to walk away if they don't offer you a fair price for your trade (if not selling privately). Get financing ahead of time from your bank; don't pay extra for interest over the length of the note. Have fun and enjoy a Volvo!!!!

Thx for the clip man, i checked and it´s only missing one bar, should i refill the oil ?
@Frontlaven3 жыл бұрын
If it's missing one bar I'm assuming you have a newer model year? If so then it's up to you to fill it to full or not. There is always a range where the oil level is A-OK with a car.

@@Frontlaven no no my dude, i meant that the oil bars decreased by one. So it´s now above the middle by one bar only !

Keep your foot off the brake and the process will start. If your foot in on the brake the car will think that it's a regular start-up.

Dumbest thing ever! Oil sticks are essential. Friend’s 2015 XC60 same thing. And changing the oil and filter is an episode too.

Definitely. Not a great choice to go with this digital/computerized method. Really makes DIY more annoying.

It is incredulous that this level of stupidity was actually built into this car. My V60 could be very close to the best car I have ever owned if it were not for this and other inexcusable factors.
@Frontlaven2 жыл бұрын
Yes this generation of Volvos are quite smooth and robust. It's an unfortunate oversight in Engineering to design the oil gauge like this.
