So I have taken the entire day looking for the dip stick, I'm old school and find out the same thing. NO dipstick, ok I can go on the Menu but the oil icon is grayed out, and can't see if there is enough oil in vehicle. Can you tell me?? as the engine oil icon was on today.

It's important att engine need to be warm before this. You drive first to make it 90', and when you turn off the engine, you can check this options after 5 min. Only right way to do that!

NO. Komputer self measures oil before you start engine. And then when you require this info it gives you last information.

To you who are not awared. This level always is full. It never gonna be in the middle! It can be 0 , zero, or full ! After it is zero, it comes message " add 0,5 litr " or 1 litr! But if you will se how it is exactly right now, you need to connect VIDA! Or chaina's analogue via OBD!

Outstanding! I was looking for the dipstick that is shown in the owner's manual. Volvo must have been playing a trick on me, not the first time. I have a 2016 S80. It has given me a lot of problems over the years. A few months ago it was running very rough. My repair shop said the motor mounts had come loose. She tightened them down and cleared the problem very nicely. I recently had an oil consumpution test performed by Volvo after receiving a notice from them. It failed the test and I need valves and pistons at their expense. Have you ever run into either of these issues? Many thanks for the dip stick tip. Since it was shown in the manual I never would have found it. David

you need to check this without starting your engine, so press the start button once, then WITHOUT pressing clutch have a second long press on the start button, this will bring up the diagnostics mode where the oil check option is available

I have one question... my car is a V40 T5 2015, so I have access to the same information you showed in your video, however when I am trying to get the information the screen shows me OIL LEVEL NOT AVAILABLE... what would be the reason of such a statement, so, also the vehicle doesn't start. I had this but from the video it seems you press ignition once, then again but hold it for a bit and it won't start the car but activates the computer. It shouldn't be any different for any of the other engines I think.

Thanks for sharing the info. However it is critical that we need to check the viscosity of the oil which is also critical and by not allowing to feel the oil, how can one know it. Yes one can say that it is recommended by the manufacturer. But again that is a general guidelines and it might change with driving style and conditions. Based on personal experience it is good to follow 80% of the recommended KM to change the engine oil.

Yes Fred. Now-a-days the manufacturers are claiming that the recommended oil change is 20K kilometer intervals. As for brand new V40 they are offering 5 years warranty. I think if we take their word for "gospel" we might face challenges after 5 years when the vehicle is out-of warranty period. I have decided not to follow their recommendations. I am going to change the oil after 10K kilometers...of course I don't mind paying the service charge to Volvo as I need to keep my V40 at least for the next 20 years....similar to my 940 and S80

However if you had tested the power...you would like to hold it....yes I have tested it max speed that I have done is 223km/hr...Wanted to push to the max 240km/hr...but can't due to the road condition. Check it with the engine at operating temperature, on a level surface and after about 5 minutes of switching the engine off, which allows for the oil to drain back in the sump. The reading isn't available in my car if the oil is cold, which I am guessing is your problem.

Checking the oil on the dipstick tells you far more than just oil level, you can see the quality, whether it has metal particles or water in it.

Be careful! The whole scale for that oil gauge was just over 200ml on my volvo s60 2014.

I changed mine to a manuel dip stick from volvo on my xc60 you can how see the condition of the oil , I service my xc60 my self, drained the oil and had less oil than the computer told me.

it's normal, you don't have oil pressure when the ignition is on so the check engine will be also on, once you start the engine, the oil is pumped and the pressure goes up

Mind you the digital indicator is crap, it doesn't show you the actual current oil level, it takes an average reading over the course of multiple journeys and it does not reflect the actual quantity of oil present. It just tells you if the oil is there, but not how much, it will always indicate a full gauge even if you overfilled by let's say 200ml or underfilled by same amount. There are numerous discussions over this on different forums, and in the US Volvo has been sued over not taking acknowledgement of this.

Mine is a xc70 2011. Not quite the same but it does work but only shows oil level on the right hand pod. The indicator is similar but not quite so graphic. This is not going to work on older V70 or the 740, 850 series but these have the dip stick. Thanks mystery solved. Now, if you could just move the horn button neare the edge of the wheel !
