You saved us a lot of heartache and trouble. The hot water method didn't help us, but this method worked out for us. We only had an inch left. I shudder to think of what could have happened if the pilot light had gone out while we were asleep.

Great trick. Hey what do you used to cover the nozzle of the propane tank. I am looking for something to cover my 100# tank setup

on the ice I use a 1gal freezer zip lock them a cloth bag tied on loose, air flow and no water in regulator

you can, hot water wont do damage

Or you can just weigh it. As every cylinder has a tare weight, you'll always get the correct amount of propane left. This method you're showing will just show you the level, not the amount.
