How to check the computer on a Jeep Cherokee

Here’s a quick video I took on a busy Saturday on a 1995 Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 that was towed in for a No Start/Cranks Ok.
The owner thought it had a bad fuel pump but asked for a diagnosis first. Good call on his part because it wasn’t a bad fuel pump.

Thank you for the video. Trying to diagnose my ecm on 95 Grand Cherokee 5.2. How did you know which wires to check going into the ecm?

I use a paid service that gives me wiring diagrams (Mitchell ProDemand). But you can usually find a wiring diagram with a little bit of hunting on Google. Jeep doesn’t change much on their ECM’s between models, though. I wouldn’t be surprised if yours had the same locations as the 4.0 for the power, reference, and ground wires.

I had a chance to look this evening, and the power, ground, and 5volt reference wires for your 1995 Grand Cherokee are in the exact same places with the same wire colors as shown in this video. I hope that helps you get it checked out!

I have a 1996jeep xj 7 Crankshaft position sensor.and still no go First 2 crank up But when you cut it off 📴 will not crack back up Last 2 are Mopar crankshaft position sensors But made in Mexico Check ✔️ 5.volt reference Only has 4.2 that is if I read it right . I've done all the on off and light But still no luck Got code reader All it shows is link error Can you tell me what might be wrong with it .I am 75 years old in a half way house on parole. Spent over $475 just in crankshaft position sensors Any help in anyway Thank you very much Ronald Alcott

My apologies Ronnie, I never received notification for this comment. What do your crank sensors look like when you pull them out? I’ve seen a few Jeeps that will eat the crank sensors due to a flexplate touching them and tearing up the tips.
