They are ordering an oem part. They have tried many things since the original install because of a leak in the evap. Because the dash was out changed the heater core too. They now think the heater core is the issue.

The garage has adjusted the doors and replaced a few door actuators but the howling persists at times. Took part of the dash out as well to try and source out the location. They have spent extra time at no charge and frustrated they are over this.

One other thing I’ve experienced before was after installing an aftermarket evaporator. It wasn’t on a Ford, but maybe a similar thing is happening. I put an aftermarket evaporator in a Toyota once and after the job was done the case would whistle when the blower speed was in the higher range. Turned out it was due to the different style of fins on the evaporator. I traded it out for an OEM one and the noise went away.

I had the evaporator (pinhole leak) and heater core changed on 2014 Escape last year. There has been an intermmitant howl since. Only happens when air is on. Also the vents were mot working properly. The shop has taken the dash out, changed some vent motors but the howl is still there. AC is working. They cant find where the sound is coming from. Ideas??

@RedeemedMechanic Күн бұрын
Hate to say it but there is probably a door not sitting correctly. That can happen when the ac case is reassembled. They may have to remove the whole case and look. You have small “doors” that direct the airflow inside the case. When you replace the evaporator, you have to take them out of place and put them back. If one is misaligned afterward, you will have an internal airflow leak, which can cause both noise and poor flow.

Thanks for posting. What was the oil consumption on this engine? My ‘04 Dakota has 320, 000 miles and uses about a qt every 1,000 miles. My truck doesn’t seem to smoke and the plugs look pretty clean.

Check the PCV system real carefully. On this truck, the valve stem seals were the issue, but if you aren’t seeing smoke during cold starts or after idling a while, my next guess would be the PCV.

When I idle and turn around my new cat converter 02 sensors give me an error code. Truck smokes after turning around on with the front end of a steep incline. O2 error code went away with Cat Clean. Then it came back. New cat converter has less than 15k. I think it’s the valve seals. Just bought a new ranger and I’m keeping the Dakota as a dog work truck.

guess Im old school, two questions, 1 I guess no one uses fender covers any more? and why couldnt you use a threaded rod or a bolt with the head cut off, may be a little easier to get than a brake line , then thread it, or am I missing something?

Hard to find threaded rod or a longer bolt in the correct pitch (metric) I have some now, but I had to scour the internet to find it.

At 1:10, the washers aren't the hub pulling adapters, they go on the other side. They're also oiled in the middle (I assume it's to prevent turning friction). I don't know why they're in the middle of the hub adapters, but you should be using one of the either two below the washers, or the one above it. The washers prevent the bolt from touching the "T-Bar" (the main piece metal that holds the bolt and the two hooks).

Yes, you’re right, and I’ve used them the correct way before. But they also did happen to fit perfectly for this hub, so I kinda went with it.

Wow, I am beyond thankful for your video. I got in my 2016 Ford Titanium the other day and turned on the AC and it sounded like thunder rumbling, scared me so bad. My husband said it sounded like the blower motor was messed up. So I started searching for the issue online while he was at work the next day. Found your video, sent it to my husband and he said. "We'll check it out." Well Guess what, everything was exactly as you said. cost me a 18 dollar filter and all total about 2 hours since we had to go get the filter and find some tools to clean around the fan. I wish I could attach a picture of my cabin filter it was exactly like you showed. God bless you for posting this!!!

Just used the zip-tie method to install a geo tracker's power steering/air compressor belt and it worked! Previously, I tried two different belt stretching tools that could not attach to the pullies properly and did not work at all. The zip-tie method described here worked where nothing else did. Well, over 48,000 views and you’re the first negative comment. Congrats!! However, I made this video for the DIY crowd, who typically don’t own recovery machines. So I didn’t bother showing how to use one, since as mentioned in the video, they’d have to have a professional do that part before starting. That’s of course if they still have any refrigerant left in the system, which is not common with evaporator leaks. But I appreciate the feedback. Hope you found portions of the video useful anyway.

Instead of having a mechanical tensioner, they engineer the belt to be elastic and you have to wrestle it over the pulleys. I’m not a fan of the design but have to deal with it a lot.

I reinstalled it yesterday but wasn’t able to video it. It went back together perfectly using the measurements and shims I’d notated during removal. The only tip I have is make sure the motor is facing the correct way as you’re installing the unit, because if it tips the other direction, you can’t reorient it inside the door.
