At 70 I just bought a 2020 E450 wagon and this will be the first car i've ever owned without a dipstick. I'm not happy about the lack of freedom to take a look, touch and smell motor oil. Since most of the time the cars just sit, I always enjoy checking out the oil. Thankfully my BMWs, 22 and 52 years old have a dipstick. I'll savor it all the more.

mine can read anything from just above max to just below min during the course of a day........i get that dealers what to make money servicing but not providing a dipstick and relying purely on an electronic sensor on what is a significant fluid seems reckless. i would like the peace of mind to be able to physically check given the apparent randomness of the sensor.

Oil expands quite a bit with temperature as per simple thermal dynamics…

@@HollywoodCod Not enough to make a noticeable difference on a dipstick in my experience.

Has it been like that since new? Maybe you'd like to change the sensor, located at the bottom of the oil pan. I believe you unbolt it and replace it (with sump empty), nothing difficult.

Mine is doing the same 2020 b220d Just serviced the car and when I saw the the issue the garage told that is perfectly normal as the oil expands. Did you find an issue?

Question i am driving my mercedes a180 2020 model almost 8-9 months and the oil is always on max is this norma?? I have the feeling the sensor is broken maybe and I use the car dailly.
@GarageTechAutomotive2 ай бұрын
@@russwar12 don’t think then sensor is broken, just a good engine not burning loads of oil, admittedly sometimes the sensors are not 100% accurate and can go from full one day down to the min the next, what’s the mileage, and how many miles have you done since you’ve owned it? When was the last service/oil change?

@ thanks fot the fast response i bought it with 39000 and now its on 53000

@ ohh and it had a oil change before I bought it I think because its was from a garage but not a dodgie garage the people where honest in my opinion.

Hey, no, you’ll have to check under the hood/bonnet for that.

Could I enquire about the A180, the car made Sep 2019 but Registered as 2020 model and the Motor registry approved that, even it said so on the side door, any help appreciated. Thanks man.

Thanks for the video. I was looking under the bonnet of an A-class (not my car) for something vaguely resembling a dipstick and I failed miserably...the only dipstick was me😆.

it can’t read the oil level, is it the same once the engine hot? needs to be on a level surface.

Google how to access workshop mode then rear pad replacement would be on that menu. To access you have to hold black touch button and back button at the same time while on ignition position 1
