Excellent Video... having all sorts of strange symptoms on our 2011 Kia Sorento after a new Kia alternator replacement. Difficult to explaing but some symptoms: Car idle is higher than usual, feels like it changes gears differently (engine revs as gear changes happen, etc). As per your video multimeter test shows 100% okay. Would alternator "ripple" potentially cause the kinds of issues we're noticing? Mechanics continue to say that the new alternator would not cause any of the symptoms. Thanks!

Excellent video very professional demonstration of scope use for alternators . I remember when a bad diode pack on a tractor linkage control switch caused the tractor to take on a mind of its own causing the implements to crash into the ground or lift suddenly without any warning potentially crushing the farmer trying to hitch up implements. Tractor manufacturers often hide missing bits of information away in training manuals which are only issued to the main dealer mechanics going on the manufacturers training course. So the independent mechanic has little hope of obtaining all the necessary information. Even where a genuine workshop manual is available it usually has important information missing hidden away in additional service bulletins /sections.

Great great video. Trying to find out why i have Gen light ''faded on'' and not full bright red, measure the battery and it is charging but after your video i am thinking that one diode might be dead.

Think I have just found out why my old Jag has charging issues...always has since I bought it. Had the alternator tested by a LUCAS Service Centre and they said it was 'OK" but the issue is an intermittent one IIRC. Anyhoo, now my van has a charging issue and I at least know a bit more to try and rectify (get it) the problem...

Great video, I honestly never thought to test ripple. Only problem is that my oscilloscope is a dual trace valve type I use for diagnosing power supply issues on valve amps lol, I'll have to get myself into the 21st century!

Hi mate as you can be aware it is absolutely impossible to compare the two scopes I have both of them and it would be completely unfair to do so because the pico is 20 times more expensive if you contact them in the links in the description Now give you all the information you need for the price of this scope you cannot complain
