DIYers often ask how to check for slope when installing a drainage system. I'm going to walk you through this job and show you what we do when installing systems for residential homes.
The yard is super flat and we have the neighbor at a higher grade - sending all of their water here as well. I'm going to cover all the obstacles and how we achieved slope for this installation.

At the start of the trench where it’s very shallow will you fill it with just stone before starting your pipe?

I will show this more. We use to do that, now we use 3" Blue perforated and a 3"-4" adapter at the transition point. This is our 1st year to have a 100% Virgin 3" pipe.

Thanks for all your videos! Is there a minimum amount of slope needed to daylight a French drain using a pop up emitter?

Good question. You can't force it or you will be to deep. If you lay a glass full of water flat on a table with no slope it empties out. Why? Because it's not in a hole. You have to run your system to a grade break ( drop off point) and you can be FLAT. System will drain like the glass in my example. Now if you have SLOPE take it. This is one of the hardest things to teach and for diyers to understand. I've done some videos on it but they are older and kinda suck because I was a beginner content creator. I do prefer 2% slope, when I can get it and when the yard offers some slope. On a really long run, you end up really deep. That's not good for d. I. Y, so we have to be practical.
