I just wanted to tell you dear friend, as an older woman, (and I'm a bit slow anyway lol) how much I adore you and your videos! They're truly wonderful, very helpful with complete details as needed. I can watch you all day. In fact I have. Thank you for not only helping us to understand the mechanics behind these projects but for helping us to see what is best to use, and how to do it all as well! Basically what all these comments already say, but I wanted to say so as well. A big Thank you!

Thank you. Glad it was helpful! I tried to go by what I would have liked to know before I shopped for one. Actually my first pen was a Christmas present but it broke after the first six weeks and then I went through quite a learning curve trying to shop for my next one. Because by then I knew I definitely wanted one.

You can do so much with a 3D pen. I've had one for years and I've had so much fun with it. But it broke suddenly and now I know what to look for in a new pen. But years have passed and I wanted tot see other options. I recommend a 3D pen you can adjust heat, sometimes you want it colder and sometimes warmer depending on the technique you're using. I also want a wireless pen and as small as possible. That is what works for me. I've used a 3D pen called 'DYD pro' and they're good!

And time. My first pen was a Christmas present and died in about 6-8 weeks. By then I knew one thing. I really wanted one. It took me a few months of trial and error purchases to get it right. The thing is if you are coming to 3d pens from 3d printing you already know a lot about it but if you are starting from scratch this could help you understand what the 3d pen reviews talk about.

A fine guide here. I should have started this hobby 5 years ago but finally have the time. Only a few weeks in and I'm still just practicing strokes and basic shapes. To the subject of your video, also now have a collection of 3 pens, Mynt3d pro, Scrib3d and a rebranded version of the 3d Mate in your intro. Would you suggest reserving a pen for non-standard filaments only? Also, would ABS hold up better for garden art?
@3DPENDEN
@3DPENDEN Жыл бұрын
Which of your pens do you prefer? As for reserving pen for non-standard filaments I don't think you need to. But I am by no means an expert on non-standard filaments since I mostly work in PLA. I would definitely try ABS for outdoor use. I had a PLA mobile hanging on my porch out in the elements and it lasted only about 3 months and then it got really brittle. Not sure how well ABS would do, but presumably better.

@@3DPENDEN The Mynt went to the top of the list as soon as I used it. The retraction seems quicker, the temp seems more accurate, the sliding speed control and the tip (like on the Mate) sticks out further from the barrel than on the Scrib3d.. I like seeing where the flow is going.

Hi, great video what do you think of the mynt super 3d pen?
@3DPENDEN
@3DPENDEN Жыл бұрын
I don't have the mynt super but my understanding is that it is like the PRO except without the temperature display. It is also $20 less. I like the temp display because sometime it's nice to just adjust it by a few degrees up for certain brands of filament. But if the money is an issue I imagine they both work well since they are from the same company. I mostly use Mynt PRO and love it.

How does the process of the retraction part of the pen works? Because I have that extruding of PLA all the time
@3DPENDEN
@3DPENDEN 3 жыл бұрын
Retraction is a feature of most pens where the pen pulls the plastic back a tiny bit when you stop. It is supposed to help prevent those long hairlike strands dragging from your pen. It's best to wait in place for a second to give it chance to separate before yanking the pen away. But there are always some strands left anyway that need to be removed later. I burn mine off with the wood burning tool.

So my daughter used one at school and she's been raving about it and it's what she wants for Christmas. Which one would you suggest for a 9 year old? I'm not sure how hot these get, I'm sure my youngest will likely use it too, she's almost 6. Would the white one be safe?
@3DPENDEN
@3DPENDEN Жыл бұрын
I would recommend the MYNT: MYNT3D amzn.to/3I9WVre I just had a class with 10 year olds and they were fine with it. Only the very tip gets hot. They still need to be careful not to touch the tip but at 9 I think they can handle it. There are pens made specifically for kids that do not get hot at all, but they use different type of plastic, so I never actually tried one to know if they work well. You may need to supervise a few initial sessions but after that I think she'll be fine. I personally believe in giving kids real tools that work. But that's up to you as a mom. Here is also one of the kids versions but hunting for the special plastic that it uses could be an issue both cost-wise and availability-wise. Good luck. www.amazon.com/MYNT3D-MP032-Junior2-Temperature-Printing-Compatible/dp/B08K8RPZVX/ref=pd_lpo_3?pd_rd_w=7506T&content-id=amzn1.sym.116f529c-aa4d-4763-b2b6-4d614ec7dc00&pf_rd_p=116f529c-aa4d-4763-b2b6-4d614ec7dc00&pf_rd_r=AP8A6YRB2C4NH18SQPJV&pd_rd_wg=2Fbyf&pd_rd_r=780c1276-3d01-4f9f-be32-a7c3b2eff937&pd_rd_i=B08K8RPZVX&psc=1

What are the makes of the pens you have that have replaceable tips, especially the one with a variety. Thanks
@3DPENDEN
@3DPENDEN Жыл бұрын
3d doodler has a variety of tips available. At least it used to at the time of making that video. However it is also the one that uses proprietary (and thicker) filament and it voids their warranty if you don't use their brand. Which will be more expensive in the long run. So consider it carefully before you commit. I use MYNT PRO in most of my videos which you can buy a replacement tip for (however it is just one size) but you can use the filament that comes in the regular spools that go into 3d printers.
