I've got a great story for you, Kirby. A few years ago, I went on a cruise. I am a female, who enjoys a decent cigar once in a while. On the cruise ship, I noted the location of the ship's library so I could check it out. One evening, I was not particularly appropriately dressed for it, but I went to the library. Dark burl wood, loads of books, of course, leather sofa, Persian rugs, the whole 9. There were a few gentlemen and a couple of ladies who were indulging in some very nice cigars. I purchased a $17 cigar, and sat talking with them about any and everything. I'm from a poor family, and I'm still pretty poor, but this cruise was paid for by a good friend. I was in awe at how comfortable I was, sitting and chatting with more "well-to-do" people than I was accustomed to. I believe I was born in the wrong period of time, and in the wrong geographical location. Thank you for this video, Mr. Allison! Brought back fond memories, to say the least.

Many years ago, as a premium cigar smoker then/and now, I spent a week in London seeing the sights. But, I also made a point of visiting many of the top tobacconists including Davidoff, Robert Graham, James J Fox (the choice shop of Churchill, and also having another location in Harrods). All were fantastic, particularly visiting from the US and the ability to obtain unlimited Cuban's, or as 'unlimited' as your wallet allows for $30+++ dollar cigars! To be sure, as this video shows, Davidoff's was the premiere shop. A must see while in London as a cigar lovers 'mecca'.

I'm new to this channel and I just love it. The themes are fascinating to me: - approachable male-elegance, self-expressed quality of life, and the art of refined personal projection without being heavy-handed. By focusing on things like fine cigars, centuries-old well established classic restaurants, and world-renowned hand-crafted suits and shoes (among other things); your individual segments and interviews are both informative and inspiring. The "Kirby Allison" channel definitely lays some new and needed cornerstones for a reinvented interest and respect in masculine culture and good-taste. I can't wait to watch more.

1st rule of being a gentlman;never grab a cigar at a lounge/store and bring it up to your nose unless you know that's the one you'll smoke. Quite off putting seeing someone bring it up to their nose, smell it, and put it back on the shelf. There's no class in that.

I love the etiquettes of Eddie Sahakian and I think Kirby can learn something from it. You ask before you can pick up a cigar from someone's tray. And you certainly DON'T RAM YOUR NOSE into someone else's cigar and start sniffing it like a bloodhound. That's like licking your cigar and using someone else's cutter to cut it then. Be respectful

I have little to no knowledge on cigars or cigar etiquette, but as soon as he picked up the cigar from the tray without asking I found that a bit rude. Not to mention the sniffing of someone else’s cigars on top of it. I don’t think it takes an aficionado to realize that. I like Kirby and Eddie is definitely his friend so I don’t think he would mind, but you are 100% correct I felt the same way.

Superb video, Kirby, one of your best to date: the combination of your well- prepared, pertinent questions and Eddie’s charm and expertise works very well. I agree with those on here who are telling the health police to push off and mind their own business. I and my wife are very health conscious, eat carefully and go to the gym, but one of our greatest shared pleasures is for my wife and I to sit down and each smoke an occasional double corona in the summer months (we don’t get a lot of hot days here in England). Our favourites are Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2 and their double coronas and Cohiba Lanceros. I hope you will do a future video with Eddie about how to store cigars.

A very good interview. Well done. I've watched the quality of Habanos slide dramatically over the past 20 years. The final push over the cliff for me was buying a box of Montecristo #2's at the Habanos store at Heathrow and having 25% of them plugged. I also bought a box of Behike 56's and while excellent, they weren't as good as the 1996 Robustos I have been aging in my humidor. Now I'll only buy old cubans, but my go to is the Micallef Reserva limitada privada. Never had one that wasn't perfect.

I visited Davidoff and bought 20 Partaga quite a modest sized cigar and of little importance to the fortunes of such an august company.I asked the salesman to clip the ends for me as I didn`t own a clipper.Not onkly did he clip them but packaged them for me in Davidoff sleeves of five.That shooting season I proudly smoked them during my days,discovering that if I returned them to their tubes whilst still lit and screwed the top on they simply went out and when relit were just fine.They lasted me the entire shooting season and when next year I returned to buy some more as autumn approached the salesman recognised me and treated me with extreme courtesy.A wonderful London institution.

I'm a VERY enthusiastic smoker, but I've never really been a massive fan of cigars, I suppose that's partly because I'm almost ALWAYS on the go, and very rarely get a chance to sit and relax for long enough, and on the occasions that I do, generally I go for smoking one of my pipes (Tobacco pipes not crack pipes LOL). I really should slow down a bit seeing as I'm getting older, and take time to relax enough to add cigars to my smoking portfolio.

ALEXANDER1318 Totally agree, but it is not only Mr. Allison’s fault; there is a trend trying to be [very] superlative by saying “one of the best [insert category , i.e.: restaurants] of the [insert context, i.e.: world]”. If you are trying to make clear to an audience that you _really_ like some brand, or someone’s work, you can be very neat by just saying something like: “this is a great [insert category, i.e.: restaurant]”. No need to exaggerate by making up an imaginary world (or favorites) ranking

You know he was freaking out when he started sticking his nose on the sticks. My only problem with this video is the consistency of quality in cubans and the quality of non Cubans. I myself prefer the taste of a Cuban cigar and my collection in 80/20 with 80% being cuban. I have received sticks from vendors in terrible quality. It all resulted from the same brand, which ironically is my favorite(RYJ). They’re is no consistency in good quality in today’s market. I am not buying any less though. Cuba also purposely controls the market. There can be two cigars with the same flavor profile and of the same brand. Cuba will slap a regional exclusive band on it and jack the price up x2 and it sells. Also with non Cubans you can be sure that your cigars will be aged before you get them. When you buy Cubans you will see green specks in the leaf and it will show you how green the sticks really are. There is a very high demand for cuban tobacco and not enough to stock. You will NEVER buy a Cuban cigar that says “aged 15 years” like you will on a box of Fuentes. 3 years for Cuba is considered aged anything longer you’re going to pay a substantial premium. None of this is to bash cuban brands. I’ve been to the island a few times and love Cuba. Just know if you’re in the us and buying cuban bands online be careful and age them for at least 4 months to acclimate them to your climate.

Kirby, I’ve been watching your videos for years. You are personally responsible for my closet filed with Allen Edmonds shoes and boots, each pair f which I love. However, I must say that the videos with Eddie are absolutely wonderful. The relationship and camaraderie you share is a genuine pleasure to watch. Thank you for sharing that special relationship, my friend. Now, how to get my hands on some Cohibas. Let me see, I’m actually about 135 miles due north of Havana in SW FLA. Swim? Jet Ski?

I'm surprised to hear Sahakian state the quality consistency of Cohiba. It's been quite a number of years since I abandoned Cohiba because of extreme inconsistency issues. From basic wrapper color variations in a box to a significant portion of cigars in a box being unsmokeable due to construction issues, burn issues and general quality control issues. Perhaps not so egregious in an eight dollar cigar, but when each cigar is costing you $35, I'm expecting much higher quality.
@PhatPhrank
@PhatPhrank 2 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind some of those boxes could have been counterfeit. There have been countless times I’ve been presented “Cohibas” that were clearly counterfeit. Not saying that’s what happened in your case, but it’s certainly possible.
@onocoffee
@onocoffee 2 жыл бұрын
@@PhatPhrank In my case, I tend to purchase from known and reputable sources, so counterfeit is not the issue. I have found that Cubans purchased from places like Puro Express or Duty Free can vastly differ in quality from those sourced from places like Dalay or Gerard. Even within the realm of Cubans, I shy away from Cohibas because they've been so consistently inconsistent and represent a poor value for the money.

I have tried 2 davidoff cigars in my life and both of them felt like I was drawing on air my cheeks hurt by halfway and I did not have good experiences with either both were davidoff Connecticut double coronas from 2 different vendors sadly I have been turned off of davidoff for quite some time since they are quite expensive for a cigar that I have had bad experiences with even though they tasted good. This guy is so likable I might just have to try it again

My favorite pairing when I was a young buck: Jack Daniel's Old No. 7 and Lucky Strike. Now, it's Laphroaig & English/Balkin tobacco blends with Latakia. Although, I'm still chasing that first Arturo Fuente Opus X experience after I quit cigarettes and transitioned to cigars.

Ready Now&Forever well, I guess you can never be a 100% sure as I didn’t look extremely carefully at the packaging and all of that, but you can search for counterfeit vs real on the net and spot the differences, that way when you buy you’ll which one it is. I was in Miami and happened to go past a B&M cigar shop, they had Cohibas, Montecristo, and a few other Cubans. I also saw cohibas in the duty free at the airport.

Well, its because of this channel (and Eddie) that i got into cigars. I usually get these ones called Leather Rose. Yes, they're cheap-ish. But, i like them. They're an enjoyable smoke, and the smell isn't overpowering afterward. I'm looking to try some other (better) ones eventually. They go really well with Kaiyo whiskey, to my pallette anyway.
