Sanjay, You are not only one of the best knowledgeable KZbin presenters in your genre, but your presentation is also tops. This includes knowing your use of differing video spaces, set sizes appropriate for what you need to get across, including smooth transference between. Always attention grabbing sets! (example: Maschine Micro tutorial, had different small toys, arranged in each one of the series. Who thinks of that!?) But, in order to carry this out, ( the invisible part ), your Video/Audio production skills, lighting and sound equipment, need to be spot on, which of course, they are. Last but not least is your, on screen personality. Being able to put the audience at ease, while explaining concepts that may have a bit of curve to them. Bringing us along with you, so that we are caught up in your enthusiasm! Something also that truly separates you from the rest, is your closeup hand acting! You almost don't need to talk! Your hands point the way!! LOL! Thus, if I am searching for a KZbin subject, I filter them for the most specific focus. Along the way, if I see there's a Sanjay video, even remotely in the subject, it's like, "Oh! I gotta see this!" Aloha from Maui! Coe

I loved how straight forward this whole video was. Is as easy to understand as it gets. That being said: I wasn't a fan of your statement that higher sampling rates give you a higher quality. All, a higher sampling rate does is enabling you to record higher frequencies. You need a sampling rate twice as high as the highest frequency you want to record, plus some headroom to be able to remove audible alias artifacts. 44.1 kHz (or 44100 Hz, as it is stated in many cases) already covers the whole spectrum of human hearing plus said needed headroom. (technically it goes up to 22050hz as the higher frequency) In case you want to be absolutely sure, that even frequencies only very few youth will ever be able to hear are captured, you might go up to 48kHz / 48000 Hz, plus again headroom to fight aliasing effects, as it goes up to 24000Hz as the highest recordable frequency. For video recording, 48000Hz of sampling rate will be easier to use, but overall, 44.100Hz has you covered already. And You don't get anything usable by going to ludicrous sampling rates like 96000Hz or 192000Hz, unless you want to record sounds for bats. What's more: Higher sampling rates will be much harder on your DAW, which can make editing difficult. The bit depth (8 bit / 16 bit / 24 bit) has the potential to be much more important here, as the dynamic range you can record sounds (the difference between the lowest and the loudest possible signal to record) in is limited by the bit depth. 8 Bit gives you 42 dB of dynamic range. So yea, nobody in their right mind will ever record there. 16 Bit gives you 96 dB of dynamic range. Now that is what we're talking about! -96dBFS is so quiet, that nobody will be able to hear that anymore. 24 bit gives you a dynamic range of 144 dB. And even tho -144 dBFS is ludicrously low and in terms of hearing nobody will need that, it will give you benefits in recording sources with a huge dynamic range. And while in reality, your dynamic range will struggle to even hit 96dB to begin with for several reasons, we can still say: Lets just stick to 24 bits if we can. In contrast to the sampling rate, this doesn't affect the performance on your DAW much anyways.

Love your videos, but you really should mention the MOTU M2 and M4. These interfaces are a game-changer -- with realtime high-resolution metering, incredibly low latency drivers, independent phantom power control per input, and best of all -- the ESS Sabre32 DAC, including ON THE HEADPHONE OUTPUT!.... these should be the absolute number one recommendation to anybody starting out right now. They've redefined the entry level category.

I recently picked up a Yamaha AG03. It has all the inputs and outputs I need, as well as a few other things if I ever want to use, say, Twitch. Has the gain hi/lo for guitar, and is specifically designed to have a stereo keyboard and a mic so they both can be recorded at the same time, so 3 channels, so it's 3-3 and it's around the price you would pay for 2-2. I do have to switch between a guitar and a keyboard, but it's just a toggle button, so everything can remain connected. It has a small footprint for a mixer style audio interface, so it sits right on top of my Motif without getting in the way.

I have a tech question: I have bought a SINGTRIX console for custom voice changes for certain artist's songs, etc. I cannot hook it directly to my computer so I am buying a Focusrite Scarlett Solo OR the 2i2 'universal MIC' model if need be, to plug into my computer to use with Cakewalk, etc for recording, while hooking my SINGTRIX into it (Focusrite)to feed it the sound. I want my recordings to come out with different voices of singers and I want to record that into my program by the way of using the Focusrite Scarlet as the 'accepting digital amp' to sent the custom sound to my laptop. The critical question is: CAN I plug the output (headphone) of my SINGTRIX to the MIC input of the Scarlet ( to which I have the 1/8" to 3 pin plug adapter) by way of using the headphone output w/ 1/8" plug to the mike adapter plugged into the MIC input on the scarlet. So now, as I sing into the mic on SINGTRIX, the signal w/ custom voice and background music etc. is being sent through the headphone jack to the MIC input on the Scarlet which is sending the signal to my Laptop and into my Cakewalk program to edit. The Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 has a 'dual' universal mic input for 3 pin or 1/4" mic jacks. IS there a voltage power difference between them two types of plugs/jacks? Should I buy the 2i2 or will I be ok with my Solo using my 3 pin to 1/8" plug adapter to accept the double end 1/8" plug from output to mic input? I cannot see how this theory can't work but wanted to double check. The SingTrix is a pre amp and not a full amp. It must be plugged into an amp by way of outputs to hear a signal, so I see no power issues there feeding into Focusrite. Could there be an issue with 'balance' coming from the output/headphone jack if it was unbalanced going into a balance line mono input such as on the Focusrite and if so, is there something to place in between the two to correct this so I can use an audio interface? Thanks for reading

The end of story. A line level is hotter signal than mic level. 2) U can attach an attenuation line(cable) between line level and mic level. Problem solved. 3) U may experience a lag(delay) as Singtrix is between mic and audio interface.

Excellent video. I needed this. I’m building a Karaoke system at home. Nothing major just good quality sound that doesn’t break the bank. Based on your video I ended up going with the Mackie ProFXv3 Series. I hope I know how to connect everything once it all comes in lol.

I’d highly recommend the presonus itwo, 2 mic and line/instrument inputs, midi in and out, a blend knob for monitoring so ur monitor doesn’t over power ur backing track, obviously phantom power and if u use garage band on a phone or iPad it has the connection for that. It’s near identical to the scarlet 2i2 but has extra very usual features for £40 less. The only interface you’d need unless u record drums

High-Z is about the impedance of the device being connect. High-Z or high impedance instruments are guitars, keyboards, older dynamic microphones and typically ones with the 1/4" plug. Low impedance devices usually have the XLR type connectors and many use Low impedance because your cable runs can be longer and quieter. Direct boxes another way change a signal from high-Z to low impedance. As for output high impedance or low impedance are basically the same, impedance has nothing to do with output. Line level is something totally different and they do have a hotter signal. Some instruments like keyboards might have both instrument level outputs and line level outputs. Guitars and the instrument level instruments have to go thru a pre-amp and that pre-amp is what is bring the signal up to line level, that's why recording gear heads are so into pre-amps they do color the sound while bringing the signal up to line level. Understanding the difference between instrument level and line level is important when you start plugging in gear.

@@SanjayC so I Got the Mackie yesterday and a pair KRK classic 5 are on the way. (Also based on your monitor shootout) I was originally going to pick up the JBL’s based on a ton of reviews and recommendations but changed my mind after watching your description and review. I wanted a good bottom end response. Thanks again! My next step will be to add a sub and your reviews on that are helpful too. That’s a way off. I need to save more cash and it’s not a rush since I have to be conscious of volume and thudding bass. I will probably keep it off or turned down most of the time but use it for more crucial tasks.

Great video...very informative. As a newbie to audio interfaces the number of products in the consumer space is dizzying. I was not only looking for an interface but a device that would be good for some of the online music collaboration sites. The Mackie looks very cool with the built in effects for that purpose and recording.
