I ride alone, and take frequent stops at lights. I’d take my hybrid over my road bike almost any day! In fact the only reason I bought a road bike was to see if road riding was for me, and dedicating myself to clipless pedals, all out speed, and pure road efficiency just aint for me. I’ll surely ride the road bike, since I own it, but my hybrid proves her merit time and time again! Plus, I can upgrade her 60 ways to Sunday!

I don't see how a road bike would give you a better workout other than giving you more fine-tuned control over the resistance with the greater amount of gears. They're both fine for getting your cardio in.
@terminator71373 ай бұрын
Take it this way, my main concern for looking up videos like this is because I want to do food deliveries. I require a bike that I can reach a top speed of at least 25mph and if I can up to 30mph. I train legs and do workout, so I'm athletic enough, and this might even make me tougher with higher gears from a road bike. By your comment, you dont need such bike to reach a limit. Bigger gears mean, bigger workout as you require more strength to push through and in return, you get to go faster than the average
@RichardDeLaurell2 ай бұрын
@@terminator7137 I think the video says the exact opposite of what you've said at first and then says the opposite of that at the end. Logic dictates that if the roadie is built for speed it is easier to move over the same distance. The simple fact that it is lighter weight makes that true. That means, all other things being equal, if you cover the same distance on the hybrid you will use more muscle power, not less. The roadie will get there faster no doubt, but the hybrid has to be the better workout for time spent/distance covered.

All I can say is that from what I see on the streets/bike paths, 95% of road bikes and drop handles are just for show. Yes, they are built for speed, but 95% of the riders I see have their hands on the hoods nearly all the time. That puts them in a more upright position as does the hybrid. And most are in their easiest gear almost all the time because they are on flats most of the time. Riding a roadie takes skill and I'm appreciative of that skill, but if you really believe that the majority of people riding them are "working out" more than if they were on a hybrid, you don't know people or physics much.

All great advice here folks. 💯 I started cycling as rehab for a busted knee. I started on hybrid. After I got familiar with cycling and the environment/terrain I picked up a used road bike. Spiralled from there. I went: Hybrid Road Gravel XC And I now I’m back to a hybrid. But I went steel this time and put swept bars on it. I love it.

Love this video! How bout a gravel bike video, please? You are so right, there’s no all-around bike. I currently have the Diverge and a Rockhopper, and I feel I need a designated road bike. I was looking at that Allez Sprint video you have, that bike looks awesome!
@JohnsArchipelago3 жыл бұрын
Allez Sprint would be an excellent choice. Your Diverge already has an endurance road bike-esque geometry and I'm sure the Rockhopper is a beast. The final piece would be an aggressive road bike geometry like an Allez Sprint or Tarmac SL6/SL7

Used a sirrus comp for about 5k miles before I went to a tarmac. The bar ends was helpful for another potion. The sweet spot was 28mm tires for group rides. With the stem turned down. The problem would be flats with head wind is where I get dropped on longer sections. Works great for climbing and has plenty of room to throw on wider tires for gravel rides. Once I moved to a tarmac. I put an 11-25 cassette on it and it's been my dedicated zwift bike for 10k miles.

If I were to by a bike that was supposed to take me to a store and maybe to a beach to leave it there and maybe abuse it a bit, I would certainly not want a specialized name written on it. A wallmart bike can do that quite alright without paying some extra for the brand and worrying about your bike getting stolen.

I’m pushing 50 and haven’t really been using bikes for exercise. But I applied for a job that required a certain performance in a bike test (among other tests), so I started doing endurance and interval training on an exercise bike in my gym. And I figured out that I actually liked that training. So I started to read up on bikes to get one. Wow, for someone who’s never looked into that world before it sure is a jungle with an insane amount of options. Bike types and subtypes, price options and more.😅 So, I went to the biggest local bike dealer and tried out a couple of bikes. I thought I wanted a drop bar bike. Turns out I didn’t. In the end I chose a hybrid. A race hybrid (Merida Speeder) rather than a gravel or city hybrid. Cost about $1000. It looks kind of similar to the hybrid in this video, but has 32mm tires that are more slick, 2x10 gears, and a configuration that’s probably a little more forward leaning (for a hybrid). What guided my choice is that I want the bike for cardio training (and for commuting now and then). I don’t really care about top speed, since I’m not gonna compete. Also I want to be able to ride comfortably in city traffic now and then, as well as on country roads (asphalt). Just got the bike and now I’m just waiting for the first decent spring day to take it out.😃

You said at cruising speeds hybrid is more comfortable, is this because on the road bike at cruising speed, you have more weight on the hands ?

It’s all about how much power you produce. If you produce say 200w of power, it doesn’t really matter if you do it on a hybrid at a certain speed or on a drop bar racer at a faster speed. It’s all about the work put in.
