This helped me a lot. Worked out to raise the height of my sound image.

That's so awesome! It's not always drastic but often times can be quite noticeable, especially of some tracks over others. I just adds to the realism that much more.

Question, i am thinking of getting Monitor Audio 100 Silver, how is it compared to Focal Vestia 1?
@connectronix17
@connectronix17 Ай бұрын
Hmmm.... That's a good question. I think that the Focal being smaller and having the M Tweeter is likely to be a little more refined and detailed in the mid and upper frequencies. But the Silver 100's are larger overall and have the larger 8" Woofer will have a fuller and overall larger sounding soundstage making it closer to a tower speaker kind of sound. But it may be a detriment to the midrange clarity and detail. We have both the Focal Vestia No1 and the Monitor Audio Silver 100 in the Showroom. You got me thinking that maybe I should do a comparison between the two.

Incredible how some people spend on highend gear then limit the sound quality with compressed Spotify. Instead, it's much better to use a lossless streaming source like Apple Music.

I totally agree. It's all about the best quality of the source material. It even happens in Home Theater. We did a $65,000 7.2.4 Home Theater for a couple and I demonstrated how awesome the picture and sound is when using a great 4K Blu-ray player and 4K Blu-ray discs. But he didn't want to spend the extra money and buy the movies, so he choose to stream his movies on his Roku box. You can't get out what you don't put in.

@@connectronix17 lol. A Roku box. I have a 7.4.4 setup (theater/guest bedroom) and a 5.2.4 setup (family room). I've also started with the cheaper Roku and Amazon firestick, but the Apple TV is the best (I have 2 one for each room above). Yep, although I have several streaming services (AppleTV+, Amazon Prime, Disney, Paraount, HBO, etc.) I buy physical 4k discs for my Panasonic 4k player when I want the best sound immersion. 2 channels music was a lot more challenging and I had to spend 3x more than home theater to sound awesome because vocalists and instruments are so much harder to sound real especially with just 2 speakers, whereas home theater with its 5+ speakers and playing just dialogue/explosions are alot easier to hide mediocre speakers/components/source.

You could also place thrm on concrete slabs or wood to raise the heigjht.

Oh for sure. Anything that is a firm solid base that gets the speakers to the proper height and position. Then it's just a matter of how they look. But I can't believe how much some of these manufacturers charge for matching stands sometimes. So if you have to put them on something less expensive that you make yourself until you get different stands, then that's the way to go.

I think your tv is bout 10” too high?
@connectronix17
@connectronix17 Ай бұрын
You're absolutely correct that the TV is too high. But not quite 10" too high. We had the previous TV lower and closer to the chair rail, but When we put up the LG 8K TV we just used the same Peerless wall mount location as to not start turning the wall into swiss cheese. So the TV is actually as low as it can go right now with that mount without me drilling new holes in the wall. But I will say that i appreciate your attention to detail because I'm very much the same way. And now that you got me thinking about it, it bothers me again. Thanks bro!

@@connectronix17 I understand the holes in the wall. The first one was the hardest .lol. Thanks for the content.

Why shouldn't I stand my speakers (eg KEF Ls50 metas) on toilet rolls (6 high, 2 deep, 2 wide)? I'M NOT JOKING. Wouldn't the soft paper absorb any unwanted vibration/energy? Wouldn't it be as near as possible to floating on air? I've asked this question in a number of comment sections, and it's usually dismissed as being ridiculous. As I say - I'm not joking. I want an answer. 🧐

interesting hypothesis. the only way to test it is to try out. Have you since done that?

@@mesterferenc2688 The point I was/am trying to make is - is there any good reason to NOT do it. Over the last 100 years the idea must've occurred to many people. Why has it not been taken up by everyone? There must be some problem that appears at some point. Or is it just an aesthetic thing?

Nothing wrong with a bit of experimentation
@connectronix17
@connectronix17 Ай бұрын
I hear you with that. You're theory is right, half of it anyway. The "floating" idea makes sense to a point. I've even thought about hanging the speaker from the ceiling from strings. Now there's nothing touching the speaker. But that wouldn't be good either because physics tells us, "That for every action, there is and equal and opposite reaction". So every time the woofer would move out to play a bass note, the rest of the speaker (cabinet and all) would move backwards.so if you want tight, fast, accurate bass, only the woofer driver should move. That's why the heavier the speaker the better. Thicker cabinet walls the better. More stable they stands the better. Now break that down from woofer movement all the way down to the small vibrations. Again only the drivers should be vibration, not the cabinet, the stands or the floor. That's where spikes come in, isolation platforms, and isolation feet. To stop, minimize, or dissipate all form of movement and vibrations other than the drivers themself that are reproducing the sound. Nothing else. It's a shame everyone thought you were joking and never took the time to try to explain it. That's how we all learn about this fun cool stuff!
