Idk, I've been so interested in visual arts my whole life. Then, suddenly I wrote ICT because there was just this one teacher who was great at teaching and she taught the subjects Robotics and Electronics, and I'm not that type of person who likes these things instantly, I apparently get bored with it easily. But because of her I became so obsessed with Robotics and doing commands. And the day after, I instantly regretted it lol, because I struggle too much in Electronics. I mean she wasn't suppose to be teaching in Electronics, before it was a different teacher. But now when she's teaching it I became so obsessed with it as well. Now, you can see that, I didn't choose the strand because I liked it, I chose it because the teacher was just good at teaching and thought these subjects opened a new hobby for me. But yet again, visual arts is what I'm most comfortable with. It's quite scary that I could be convinced easily. And not to worry because I only registered it, ma'am said we can still change the strand.

As a 3rd year college who also went through SHS (im actually one of maam niza’s student back in SHS hope she still remembers me… hi maam!) choose the strand that’s close or similar to what you want to take in college. Of course as i read other comments here some wanted to purse (mostly) stem but wanted to take courses in college that are not really similar to what you really want in college. Just like what maam niza said choose the strand BASE on what career you wanted so that SHS will help you start that career through lessons and future trainings so that you’ll be physically and mentally prepared in college. Im telling this with honesty, if you pick a strand that is not related with the career you want (also the course you’ll take in college) you just wasted two years in SHS. By means of “wasting” is that you’ll HAVE TO START AGAIN WITH ZERO KNOWLEDGE. Hope that this comment will also help you future SHS and to maam niza as well 😁

Ma'am, can I ask for an advice po kung pa'no gagawin? As far as I can remember, I've always liked science throughout my elem and jhs years which is in STEM right now but I can't see myself as of now in any of the fields in STEM strand. Med man or engineering. I'm not afraid naman po to learnSTEM subjects, infact, I think it'll help me explore more careers. Kaya kasama pa rin sa pagpipilian ko. Kaso lang po, I'm also into essays, writings and wants improve my communication skills which is in HUMSS. Kaso lang po I'm still not sure what I really want in the future. I'm afraid that this is just a phase and later I will regret. But then, I want to travel and I can kind of see myself working in Hotels or as a flight attendant or in the business field and accountancy can be a pre-Law (medj interested po ako maging corporate lawyer) course Which is in ABM. Which one should I choose po? ABM, HUMSS, STEM? I'm sorry if it's really confusing kasi confuse po pati ako hehe.

Since you can't see yourself in any of the STEM-related careers, and your only reasons for choosing humss are your love for writing and aim for improving your communication skills which you can also do in any other strand, choose ABM. 😊

I'm currently undecided between Law or Med, and that's one of the reasons why I can't choose between HUMSS and STEM. Since BS psychology can be a pre-med and pre-law, I should choose STEM. But I really like social sciences and literature, which is why I like HUMSS. What can you advice po regarding my situation, Ma'am Niza?

While listening to the tips what strand was speaking to your heart? You can also try using a T-chart and list your reasons for choosing either STEM or HUMSS. Whichever side has the most reasons, pick that. Good luck! 🤗 Btw, BS Psychology is under HUMSS

Hi ma'am. Can i ask an advise po? I want to be a nurse/veterinarian which is under po sa STEM but I'm afraid po sa failure po na mangyayari. Hindi po ako matalino but I really want to pursue Veterinarian po. I also have a choice po na TVL-ICT po since my friends ay nasa strand na po iyan. I'm interested too po sa ICT even if di ako marunong sa computers. I also want it po para makapagtrabaho na din po at makapag-ipon for tuiton fees po. Idk what to do po. I'm bad at communicating. If you really want something, you will do whatever it takes to make it happen. I support your first choice -STEM so you could pursue veterinarian/nursing. SHS will help you acquire the middle level skills you need to make your college course easier to handle. Kaya mo yan! Fighting! 😘

Hello Maam Niza I have considered to take Culinary School after senior high kasi gusto ko mag start ng sarli kong restaurant instead na mag Hotel & Restaurant Mangement kay based sa research ko para yan sa mga gusto maging employed. I don't know if sa ABM ako dapat or TVL. Kung sa ABM mahina aking math skills and sa pag analyze. Sa TVL probably mas maging interested ko dahil mahilig ako sa food and pag discover ng iba't ibang cuisines. So baka may idea po ka saan mas suited ako thank you

Yes, okay naman itry. Pero picking your strand should be based on your passion and the course you will take in College. Mas maganda kung ang pipiliin mo ay kung saan ka na magaling para di ka mahirapan.

Hello maam good eve, I need advice po kase im stuck between ABM and HUMSS. Gusto ko po talagang kunin na course sa college ay Tourism, gusto ko pong maging flight attendant. HUMSS, kase gusto ko pong iimprove ang aking comprehension sa english at writing skills, hindi rin po ako takot na magsalita sa harap nang karamihan because i always want to be heard and share my opinion. Pero po yung tourism ay na belong or under sa ABM strand kaya po na coconfuse ako. I hope ma replyan niyo po bukas napo ako magpapa enroll.

I would suggest enrolling in ABM. You can still improve your comprehension and writing skills even in ABM as you have subjects that could help you with that like EAPP and Reading and Writing Skills. Choose the strand related to your college course, in your case ABM. Good luck, Regina! 😊

@@MaamNiza Last nalang btw im a grade 10 student po. May school po dito samin walking distance lang dito po ako nagaaral since 1st grade. Meron shs kaso ICT, COOKERY and FBS lang po ang ino-offer. If Sa city naman po ako mag aaral complete yung strands, nandoon po ang ABM na kukunin ko sana kaso po mahal yung pamasahe P80/day (40 back, 40 forth). Kung dito naman po ako sa amin mayroon napo akong pangalan sa school since matagal napo akong nag aaral dito at ICT po ang kukunin ko dahil diba indemand po yung mga IT ngayon so maganda po kung mayroong background sa computer.I know my parents will support me po sa kung ano ang gusto pero at the same time ako po mismo sa sarili ko gusto kung maging practical. Can i have your opinion about this po?

I understand. But choosing a strand not alligned to your chosen future career is not practical, as well. If you have your parents support, do not hesitate to go for this school. This can also give you new environment and new experiences, which will help prepare you for a bigger campus in college. You can consider other ways to save for fare like boarding a house maybe or practicing entrepreneurship so you could help your parents support your studies, if you feel guilty of the cost of traveling to and from this school, which offers ABM. Go for ABM, girl. 😉

I would choose ABM if I were you. You can still exercise your passion in writing and show your skills in English even if you are in ABM. You need to take ABM for you to gain more skills and knowledge about putting up a business, and to gain credentials, too, as a future entrepreneur. Good luck! 🙂

Kung gusto ng parents mo sa medical field at okay lang din naman sayo, STEM ka na. Win-win yun. Kung magbago pa isip mo pwede ka naman mag shift ng strand, may bridging program din naman sa college, where you take the subjs you were not able to take in SHS. Good luck! 🙂

Hello po, I'm planning on graduating high school in STEM strand but my course in college will be in humss.. is it okay po ba to choose a completely different course? I already told my parents about the course I want. They know it's in HumSS but even my sisters said that it'll be better for me to graduate in STEM because it'll give me a benefit in college. There is no point in taking STEM in SHS when you will be pursuing a career under HUMSS. Mas maganda kung sa SHS palang ay trained na yung mind and heart mo sa HUMSS, mas mapapadali College life mo.
