Hi Ben. Lots of info for beginners to digest but definitely helpful. I use Cortland on my 3&5 weight rods, and Rio for saltwater 7 weight and up. Once my current Rio lines wear out I’ll be replacing them with another manufacturer due to a less than desirable experience with a customer care rep. Your videos and info are always worthwhile despite my personal experience. Thanks as always.

Hey Ben, great video. I prefer SA over Rio because of the durability.

I fly fish lakes in British Columbia where it has a one fly only rule. On my sage sonic 9ft 5wt I use rio stillwater floater for indicator chironomid fishing. For my scott centric 10ft 6wt I use scientific anglers mastery infinity line for the same. Also use rio wf full sink for deep lining and boobie stripping and clear intermediate for stripping leeches and gomphus flies.

What fly line would you recommend for helping to turn over heavier flies and get the max distance on a 6-8 specified rod?

How often should you replace the fly line?

🌴 So I friends that fish 5 wt rods in saltwater , ya know that’s what happens when your brain gets baked in the sun , so naturally I had to try it , being old and cheap I scored a 5-6 wt graphite 8’ Berkley cherry wood rod and a 6-7 Okuma reel all for $21.00 bucks , it came with an unknown floating line , so threw a leader and fake fly on it and it casted like crap ! The graphite rod is really stiff , it felt like a broom handle with kite string attached, so I went to my local fly fishing Geru , he suggested going to a notch up 6 wt - wtf line , needless to say , I told him I was apprehensive about buying a line that wasn’t going to be heavy enough to get that stiff rod to get some action in it , I took a chance and put a 7 wt- wtf floating , ( tropical) 👈🏻 line on it and it works great , ( total-$ 61 bucks for rod reel and line , Here fishy, fishy , fishy ! ) 😁

Just means they labeled the rod incorrectly as a 5wt where it's probably more a 7wt rod. The ratings are based on fly lines, not rods, so they need to build rods around fly line weight. But they haven't been doing that anymore, they now make rods and label them whatever wt they feel like. Complete hogwash. Send the rod back as it's not a 5wt

I was thinking going to 7 on the 6 rod casts further

I actually like the older Rio lines, new ones not so much. Luckily they also cost half the price!

SA > Rio Lines are much more durable, and stay slicker longer

textured lines are the worst .. noisy and also if you are doing alot of blind casting it will put a painful groove in you stripping finger

They are noisy!

As a beginner, am surprised you would recommend SA Amp line…$130! I don’t think so.

Way too many things to consider when fly fishing. Not easy.
@devinshook32897 ай бұрын
Make it easy. Just get a wf floating line and don't look back. Most of these things are for people who just wanna spend money to get a small advantage
