Today we are going to talk about how to choose the right prospecting metal detector for you. If you want to be successful in finding gold nuggets and be happy with your detector purchase, then listen to this video and hear me out as we are going to look at 10 important considerations that you should think about before buying a detector suitable for finding gold. If you don’t listen and don’t consider these issues, you may regret your purchase and you may never find any gold. No one detector is the best for all situations, so there is no one best detector to rule them all - the best one is the one that works best for you.
I am not a dealer, I don’t sell detectors, and this is not a sponsored video. I am a prospector who has been finding gold for more than 40 years and my job here is to help you find the best one for you!
I did a video on the most sensitive metal detector - See:

Manny thanks for a very informative video, but my problem is rather unique in that I just wanted to verify how deep the treasure was buried. I live in the Philippines and came to know a place where towards the end of WWII, the Japanese buried the treasures in desperation because the American forces were just in the next hacienda (as they call it now). Big time explorers (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and British) are highly mechanized using Backhoe, Dump Trucks and other earth moving equipment that even go underground into tunnels). Also, there were lots of small farmers who already had unearthed treasures buried in their own farm, and a lot more identified locations (accidentally discovered while flowing the field). Incidentally, in that same kind of activity my team dug a 3' hole x 15' deep through one end of 4' x 8' concrete cover (2' below the surface), and again through a second cover 6' (or 6' below the top cover) going down. I'd like already to imagine the container as 2-storey concrete box. Since the soil was rocky, made of large & small marble and sand, digging works was very hard and progress had been snail paced through manual digging. At 15' down from top cover we intend to dig horizontally to the opposite end. But because water coming out from beneath is strong the digging works is difficult through the rocky soil. We are now thinking, because of the difficulty, that it would be better to bore another hole through the center of the other half end of 4'x 8' top cover. Also, we taught that works would be faster should the treasure ( whatever it is) was deposited in the upper storey of the 2-storey box. Pinpointing to what quarter the treasure was deposited would be easier using "detector". The only question now is, - which detector is best suited for this kind of application. There were seven (7) more identified other locations and we intend to use our, would be, first detector to verify their individual depths. Hope you can help me select the best compromised detector's "make and model" option for our particular application. Best regard.

Great explanations. I will refer this video to all the newbies, it will save me the trouble of teaching them myself. Thanks Chris. Something I noticed missing from this video is that you didn't mention EMI. How well do VLF's handle Electro-Magnetic Interference? This can be a real problem when detecting near power lines, machinery etc.

Usually EMI is not a problem with VLFs unless you are right under power lines.

Thanks Chris! Good stuff, but could you help this newbie explore the factors that affect crevice hunting in bedrock? Seems like we're talking about very little soil and smaller gravel surrounded by solid rock. How do the topics of "mineralized soil" and "sensitivity" pertain to crevice hunting for gold? And how does this affect what metal detector you use? Keep up the good work!

Fake people who are not in desperate need but stand a street corners begging for profit is why I wont give in those cases, but only to charities that are real. A GMT in good condition for $300 is a very good deal.

Which is the best nugget detector for Nevada/ California under $2,000?
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph Жыл бұрын
Its not a simple question. Are you going to do any coin and jewelry hunting in parks and schools? Not all gold districts in Nevada and California are the same. There are other questions as well. Watch the video, and then go to a local metal detector dealer and look at what he has, talk to him and decide which would work for you.

The 2300 is an excellent detector for beginners - but no detector is the one perfect unit to rule them all. Every choice is full of trade offs. Whatever you choose you get some aspect and loose another. Join a prospecting club and talk to others in your area.

How to decide if the soil is heavily mineralized or not... is there a test for that?
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph 4 жыл бұрын
Yes there is a test, but you need a metal detector to do the test. Mineralized is the amount of iron in the soil. Perhaps ask other people who find gold what there experience is in your area.

If I like coins but I’m only interested in finding gold coins, and If I like jewelry but I’m only interested in finding gold jewelry, and I really like looking for gold nuggets small and large, is it safe to say, a gold metal detector will find gold coins and gold jewelry as good as it finds gold nuggets? I mean if I get one that is designed for nuggs, will it work for the other gold items?
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph Жыл бұрын
That is not correct. Nugget detectors are made to see small targets in strongly mineralized ground. Most nuggets are small and most gold deposits are mineralized. Most jewelry and coins are large by comparison, even small coins like a dime are larger than most nuggets. The places where coins and jewelry are found (parks, schools, beaches, etc.) are generally less mineralized than gold mining districts.

@ChrisRalph Apreciate the quick response my man! I think I'm debating on the Gm 1000 or the gold bug 2. Probably leaning more towards the gm. Do you think it's possible to find gold flakes in the mountains in utah. Well enough to thicken the gold fever lol I know there isn't a lot of nuggets but doesn't utah have alot of production from flakes? Would it be better to try and hunt gold in a nearby state? I live in northern utah. It's like 1.5 hours north of utah but hunting gold is definitely calling my name
@ChrisRalph
@ChrisRalph 7 ай бұрын
I suggest you study nugget detecting before spending your money. Metal detectors don't detect tiny flakes. There is a minimum size below which a detector will not sound off. The GM 1000 is among the most sensitive, but there is plenty of gold in Utah, too small to be seen with a metal detector.
