I upgraded from my phone camera to a Canon M50 recently for my KZbin videos! One major thing I realised pretty early on is that making sure you spend time getting the settings, lighting etc right is almost as important as the camera itself. So whilst this video is super helpful to make sure you get the right features it's just as important to take the time to learn how to use it as well as possible!! I'm definitely still learning and very new to it but thought I'd share my advice!! 🌟

@@christopherhawthorn3 I’m pretty happy with it! I personally find the 4k really difficult to use because of the poorer autofocus so I pretty much just stick to the 1080p. I think it’s a significant improvement over my phone camera (you can probably tell comparing my old & newer videos) so in that respect I’m pretty happy. I don’t think there’s another camera I would have preferred at the same price so I don’t regret it! Just a shame about the 4k!

My advice? - Start on your phone - Make sure audio is clear - Work out what you miss and want to improve on when using your phone - Then come back and watch this very useful video again for some further pointers Thumbs up!

I really wanted the latest Sony RX100, but was big money. I almost bought a Canon M50, but the cost of lenses put me off. I eventually got a Canon G7x mk 3 - to shoot 1080. It has quick start up, IBIS, the flippy screen and external mic socket. Using this with a Rode video micro and on a Zhiyun M2 gimbal is a great vlogging set up. Really happy.

@@deisymontes To get the blurry background you just need a lens with a low aperture ( probably from f2.8 and lower). I'd recommend buying a Canon M6 Mark ii with a Sigma 16mm (f1.4) lens or Canon 22mm (f2) lens or a Canon 32mm (f1.4). They are all great lenses that'll give you what you're looking for. The cheapest is the Canon 22mm lens and the most expensive is the Sigma 16mm. I'd recommend the Canon 32mm because that'll be the best focal length for makeup/ beauty style videos, but check them all out and make your choice. Good luck!

Thanks for this video! Yall have been my go to for advice and information on KZbin and gear for over two years. I am currently wanting to buy a second camera ( I am rocking with a DSLR Rebel 2 for in studio and it fits my needs perfectly for in studio ). I am looking for something as a second camera is that super easy and convenient for on the go recording, secondary shots or easy and unobtrusive recording at conventions ect. Convenience and low profile, while having the ability to still make good videos and basically tuen on and record with as few steps as possible, is my goal. I am currently considering the Sony ZV-1 for this purpose. Would yall have any thoughts on the Sony ZV-1, or recommendations of other cameras to look at? one of two things - decide whether you want 4k or 1080 - m50 would be great for 1080 - because of vlogging you may want a wide lens 11-18mm lens - then for talking head stuff maybe a sigma 16mm lens

For workout videos it's kind of how you choose to shoot them - if you're following the instructor you definitely dont need background blur more than everything just being clear - the kit lens would be great for that - think some features you may want is IBIS - great auto focus - mic jack for wireless mic. Look into the sony ZV-1 or the m50 with the kit lens if youre on a budget

The 11-22 would be more for vlogging (super wide) / I’d suggest going with sigma 16mm 1.4 if you want that nice blurry background for talking head videos

Good advice here. But why use a 16mm lens? If you need a blury background a 35mm or 55mm lens might give better bokeh (= blurry background).

Control over "blurry backgrounds" is NOT about changing lenses! It's about controlling the aperture (and the size of the sensor). If you get a good enough lens, and a big enough sensor, you don't have to change lenses to control aperture, you just operate the diaphragm.

@@automationmasteryforcoache6368 Thanks for asking! Got the idea for a food blog in 2010... while "suddenly" unemployed and flat broke. My first recipe was a variation of my grandma's "secret" cornbread recipe. I also decided in 2010 I would create multiple income streams and become a millionaire because I was sick and tired of working for others in a toxic environment while being underpaid. I'm not yet a millionaire, but MUCH better than when I started. I've planned a series of motivational videos with more lessons from my journey. I've survived some ugly challenges. Must share the wisdom to help others in a similar situation!

I brought one last week on Amazon as a refurbished by Amazon product, came brand new - couldn’t see where or if it was ever taken out of the box and it was half the price - if you make the purchase be sure to get the Canon EF-S 18-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens - great difference for vlogging/videos exceptional.

Hi Omar, thanks for the cool tips. I've just started a programming channel. I'm using Nikon 3400D to shoot myself for a few minutes at the beginning and end of the video. The rest is just screen capture. In addition to the flip screen and external mic what will I gain by investing in something like the m50? I use a mic which is connected to the computer and I can easily sync the audio with the video. Just wondering how critical it is to upgrade. Thanks, Etay.
