How to choose the perfect petticoat

Today is a video on petticoats. I wanted to simplify the process of choosing one as I know when I started lolita fashion I had trouble choosing one at the start and made many mistakes.

I have always liked how pretty Petticoats are , at junior school one of the teachers wore one which was mesh , it was nice the way a dress seemed to be padded out . ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

There's some things I would like to add/correct. 1: "Brands don't tend to make petticoats" afaik most (if not all) brands have consistently released petticoats and they have done so for a long time (early 2000s~current year). 2: petticoat materials used; There's tule, organza, chiffon and fine synthetic netting (example what aurora and ariel uses). Brands have even used cotton jersey and woven cotton. My fan plus friend petticoat was a combination of tule and organza. 3; lengths; there is standard (which is 5cm shorter than knee length dresses/skirts), extra short (typically 35cm), petticoats for calf length dresses/skirts, petticoats for maxi length dresses/skirts. 4; the squaredance petticoats some of the US lolitas tried to use for lolita don't work because the shape/silhouette is wrong for lolita and there's too much volume at the hem. When worn with lolita dresses/skirts the dress/skirt is underfilled at the top, but the petticoat is too wide for the skirt at the hem so the skirt/dress rides up and the petticoat can be seen. It wasn't a common thing for people to try this because the community warned against it. 5; so called "loose rules" during the old school era being the reason behind people not wearing petticoats or people wearing low poof petticoats; The reality is that some pieces from this time were so narrow they could not even accommodate a petticoat. They were not intended to be worn with petticoats (other than the built in petticoat). Both narrow and very poofy silhouettes were seen at the time, they just had a different amount of hem circumference and required different petticoats. 6; price and "if you pay less you get lower quality" doesn't hold true at all for lolita petticoats. Aurora and Ariel is cheap yet very good and holds up for years. Some petticoats from other brands are around 100$ and not much better (and sometimes worse) in terms of longevity and silhouette. 7; you may think this is a separate topic but imo it would have been good to mention hoop petticoats (both with or without fabric layers), as an alternative to regular petticoats for hot weather or very heavy dresses. I understand you don't want to do a lot of research for a 6 minute video. So in that case I would suggest making these shorter informative videos in the future when you're a seasoned/experienced lolita yourself. In general I don't think it's a good idea for beginners to make informative content (unless someone else is guiding them, like RinRin taking a beginner shopping and trying out different outfits with some backstory about lolita). Beginners make too many mistakes when producing this kind of content and it can lead to misconceptions/spreading misinformation when other beginners watch their videos because they assume the content creator is an experienced lolita. I know I can't tell you what to do. I see no problem in you making content where you explore different topics related to lolita fashion as a beginner, as long as the videos are presented in that way and not as informative content for lolitas.

I own a MeLikesTea petticoat, of the cupcake variety in a voile fabric, and it gives decent poof and its quite comfortable to wear

I'm looking for a new petticoat so I can wear my coords more casually and this was really helpful! Another indie brand I've heard a lot about and used myself is Aurora and Ariel :)

Glad it was helpful 💕 My second hand pastel petticoat is from Aurora and Ariel. I think it's a common brand in my local comm.
