How to choose the perfect rug size

By all design rules the 8x10 would be perfect. Just the front legs of the furniture need to be on the rug. The last rug was too big! Might as well get full floor carpet in.

"all design rules" -- Surely design rules are man made, so the rule proposed in the video is equally valid? So clearly "all" design rules do not require only front legs to be on the rug? (A full floor carpet won't create zones within a room. It will just give the room a different flooring, which is not the point of the rule proposed in this video.)

@@eizhowa the designed rules are there to mske things look more harmonious, spaciuos and balanced. The are not created arbitrarily, there are formulas that humans find to be innately aesthetica,lly pleasing. Of course you can break rules if that's your preference, they are only guildlines. I do agree however there is nothing wrong with have all the legs sitting on the furniture, this is also considered to be acceptable.

6x9 or 9x12, either is good. All on or all off. The 6x9 did a good job of pulling the elements together and still showed lots of hardwood. Informal, casual, relaxed. 9x12 with all of the furniture sitting on it gives a more serious look.
