I watched this video because of the video "A Saturday afternoon bike ride and chat" by Louis Rossmann. In it, he is on an electric bicycle going all around New York City, and the audio is superb. I couldn't hear any wind noise at all. He linked to the DPA 4065 or DPA 4066 microphone.

Great video! The only bad part about DPA headsets is that there is no budget version at all. The cheapest model goes for around 500 EUR and better models are more expensive. Competitors have similar looking (but obviously acoustically worse) microphones for 60 EUR. I hope DPA could create something around 100-200 EUR range in the future - maybe acoustically a bit worse than 4066 or 4088 but obviously higher quality than 60 EUR knockoffs.

Perfect beginners guide Thanks You haven't told why we have to choose Omni instead of directional sometimes If directional probably match more cases And if with directional mic seted separatly on a stand or table... We have a chance to miss a bit with not having a habit to work with mic Here it looks like we cant miss the direction and how far and how close we are to the mic Or there are still some more chances that holder will move and we loose the sweet spot Or there are some frequency losses...?
@bobrinck67883 ай бұрын
The directional headset requires more attention to correct placement. The omni headset is more forgiving. The directional headset is also more sensitive to wind and pop noise, which is why I use a windscreen on the directional, but don't have to, on the omni.

First of all, thanks for the interesting video! I want to use this headset (4488 or the 4466) in a planetarium. This is a dome with 2 projectors and ventilation. On the other hand, I also want to use it in an auditorium for a larger audience. Now I don't know which one to choose. Omni or directional. Omni retains the timbre of the voice and the directional does not or less. However, I don't know what is best. There is not much background noise unless that projector is at a greater distance from me. At first I would have chosen the directional but since the timbre of the voice is somewhat less, I have doubts. Can you give me some advice?

If there is little to no background noise, an omni mic should be fine.

Also a great headset mic. However, it is an omni mic so it will pick up more of the surrounding sounds. But depending on the distance to the fan, it may work out just fine. If you can, try it out and if there is too much ambient sound, consider asking the dealer to exchange it for a 4088 or a 4488: www.dpamicrophones.com/headset/4488-core-directional-headset-microphones

Hi i just recently purchased a dpa 4560 binaural microphone for filming outdoor ambience. Is there a deadcat that you can recommend for your microphone to block out wind noise?
@DPAmicrophones2 жыл бұрын
We do not have a specific recommendation for a deadcat for the 4560. This is because it would be stuffed in your ears. You could cover your ears with a similar material, but it will have influence on the sound.

Which microphone would you recommend for studio coverage of esports tournaments? I'm guessing omnidirectional, but I can see an argument for directional if the coverage booth is open and the audience background comes through. Thoughts?
@DPAmicrophones Жыл бұрын
Hello, You are right. If it is a noisy environment, a directional will give you are more clean signal. This could be for instance our 4488 - www.dpamicrophones.com/headset/4488-core-directional-headset-microphones But with a omni you will get an overall better signal. Since the headset will be placed so close to the sound source (your mouth), there is a natural dampening of the audience background. But it really depends on how loud the audience is at the microphone. Check out the 6066 www.dpamicrophones.com/headset/6066-subminiature-headset-microphone Or the 4466 www.dpamicrophones.com/headset/4466-core-omnidirectional-headset-microphone Does this help? Kind regards DPA Microphones

@DPAmicrophones2 жыл бұрын
Hi Adam. They all sounds great. With the mounts on 4466 and 4488 the mic position will stay fixed. The difference between the two models is that 4466 is an omni and 4488 is directional. If you pay on a stage with loud monitors and drums on the stage, we'd recommend the directional 4488 to minimise bleed from other sound sources.

@DPAmicrophones Жыл бұрын
We have this 3.5 mm TRS locking adapter for SOny, but I am not sure if it is compatible with the UWP-D27 bodypack.
Still something I'm not sure about. Why would someone ever want an omnidirectional headset microphone ? Obviously the goal of a headset microphone is to pick up your own voice and not the ambient noise. So why are there omnidirectional headset microphones ? He said that in s controlled environment, like a studio, he would use an omnidirectional one. Is it because omnidirectional ones are better in picking up the whole range of one's voice ?
@DPAmicrophones8 ай бұрын
@ytonaona In general terms an omni mic will give you the best audio. It is the poler pattern that will provide the most flat and uniform response across all frequencies. That combined with beeing the absolute best placement to capture the voice, an omni headset will be the best choice if you do not have other challenges to worry about. The great thing about the placement is that you are very close to the sound source, so other sound sources are relatively quiet compared to the main signal. That beeing said, there can be plenty of reasons where an directional headset is the best choice. A directional will give you even more difference in main signal (the voice) and all the other sounds in the scene. So the question is always, is the proximity enough to mute other sound sources or do you need that extra isolation of a directional mic at the cost of some clarity in the signal. Pros & cons.

@@DPAmicrophones Thank you very much. I'll soon participate in a spectacle for children. It's a hybrid spectacle : storytelling + music. On stage there will be a full band and me the storyteller. Most of the time when I speak they don't play full power and vice versa. But there are many times where they do play when I speak, for sound effects/background soundscape and also when we fade in/fade out respectively. So that when they are finishing and fading out their song I already start speaking. And when my part of text is about to end, they already fade in the next song. They have drums, keyboards, bass, saxophone. Plus some voice mics. There are "returns" (or however you call the speakers to hear yourself. I'm a beginner in all of that) on stage for each of us. With everything you said and I've read, it seems a directional (cardioid) headset mic would be the best for me ? In summary, it's a live performance, there are instruments everywhere, my voice needs to be isolated and clear from the rest, children in the public may laugh, scream, talk etc, and I'm moving on stage. What do you think? I only see two cons: - As a storyteller I would have liked the whole spectrum of my voice to be heard. - I'm moving on stage and I read somewhere that in that case an omni is easier to set up in the mix, because it anyway receives sound from everywhere. While a directional is , well, very directional and since I'm moving I might get different input at different times depending on where I'm located. Example: it could be that the back (dead) end of my directional mic (facing outwards) is cutting out a guitar next to me (as it should), but when I move on stage, it could be that the opening side of my mic is pointing right at the guitar and at my mouth (guitar being on the same direction). What are your thoughts ?
@DPAmicrophones8 ай бұрын
@@ytonaona Sounds like you would benefit from directional headset in that use case. If you choose to use a DPA directional headset such as the 4488 you will absolutely hear the full spectrum of your voice (:
