Way back when I started mounting bindings the term “ cord length “ was a straight line measurement from tip to tail. The center of that measurement was known as “ Mid-Cord “ Ski boots didn’t have “ midsole marks. Mounting jigs used a toe line so if a manufacturer didn’t provide a boot toe line on the top sheet you had to find the mid cord to establish a mounting position. This of course was on traditional skis. The standard method for fitting a skier was to have then raise their arm up and the proper length ski tip was at their wrist. The average length for men was about 205 cm. At 5’5” I skied 195-198 slalom and 201-203 GS ski. I enjoy today’s technology and find 167 -176 cm length’s very easy to ski.

I wish something like the effective edge or running length was posted with the blister review specs to have an empirical comparison between the skis. I’ve been doing a mini gear lab experiment with my quiver and noticed that most of my skis, when decambered, have the same (or very close) running length even though they range from 165 to 174cm. I feel like that metric alone could help me and others choose which length of skis to buy!

Love the m-Pros as the "too long" ski (except that they're not too long. They're objectively perfect in every possible way. Especially the 105 / Pro Rider).

I like how you demonstrate with skis that we can go research and view specs etc. to confirm your points! (What ski is at ~3:50? Wildcat?)

I am 5'7". I used to ski very comfortably on Salmon Stance 90 in 176cm. But I don't find K2 MB 89ti in the same length similar comfortable. It may have to do with the turn radius like you said.
@hopandsolo8 ай бұрын
Are the MB stiffer? That may be why. I have the Stance 90 also but in 182 and I'm 183 so very manageable for me, haven't skied the MB to.

luke and dylan are both about ~150-155lbs - how much of a diff does rider weight have?

Just got Rossignol Rallybird 92 skis for partner, seem to be longer than expected, must be straight tape measurement. Salomon seem to measure material length. Confusing!

With the general guideline of a ski coming to between your chin and top of your head, is that (a) while you stand barefoot, (b) in sneakers, or (c) in ski boots?
@blisterreview11 ай бұрын
Typically, it's while you stand barefoot or just with socks on

I just go with 103 cm from tip to boot center on almost everything I ski, that's my goldilocks length. Rocker in the tips and/or tails? Is there a ski with rocker in the tail but not the tip? Could be fun actually
