I came across you videos looking for a comparison between xtool and glow forge. After watching it, you did a great job describing the differences and I think the xtool M1 is more geared to my needs. I’ve a small business and want to expand my shop to engraving wood for a new item to sell. I was wondering what type of wood needs to be purchased to use in the xtool machines. I want the overall thickness to be at min 1/2” to maybe 1”. I don’t want to have to purchase materials from the company directly. Please let me know if you have suggestions or video on this topic. Files for engraving would be svg

I'm so glad you found this helpful! The M1 is a great choice and will be able to accommodate the height you are looking for. I like to start with basswood, it's lightweight and inexpensive to work with. It can also be stained and sealed. Something a little nicer would be Baltic birch or Maple. Check Amazon and some laser specific vendors like Smokey Hill Designs.

@ I’m watching your xtool 2024 buying guide. Thanks for the response. I have a cricut explore and have used cricuts for years. I’m considering the new M1 ultra for its functionality especially with functions that are similar to the cricut. the M1 would be less $ and work for the item I’m thinking of creating. Do you need to purchase a certain type of hardwood from a store like Menards or Lowe’s.

Is there anything that the P2S can't do , that the S1 can? I am looking at them both and trying to decide which one to go with. Thanks for your review and videos. They have been very helpful

Good question! The S1 has interchangeable modules, so you can switch out whichever diode you get for an IR module. This is ideal for fine engraving on raw metal. More info on that here kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4a5iIl7d96ampY

Cool review 🤗do you think the xtool s1 will ever have the option of color printing or a camera?

I don't know what next year holds for xTool, but I don't think the S1 (or future versions) will have a printing capability. The M series seems to be focused on DIY while the others are just lasers. A camera would be nice, but that increases the price and right now the S1 is such a great value.
