There are Viola conversions which are more than just Violins strung as Violas (they use the bottom 4 strings from a set of 5 String Violin strings) they have a hole drilled below the treble bridge foot which is attached directly to the sound post, it goes down the hole and rests directly on the back like on a Welsh Crwth.

Cool video! I like the Viola best, sort of bridge tones between the violin and cello for soulful music. Cheers!

Hella cool, thank you for the quick show. I was torn between which one to get into today, now I'm leaning towards Viola :) cheers!

Good choice! I played in high school and a couple of years in a local Symphony. The Viola is so mellow sounding to me!

Have fun on your journey, I’ve played in a symphony orchestra from grade 2 to grade 8 and now I’m in the youth orchestra and high school string assemble so what I know is that if you’re also into a comer instrument then viola is a good choice and also we’re like a rare gem so we have a much higher success rate into getting into stuff like orchestras, groups, events (etc) because theirs so many violins, good luck and thanks for joining us violas.

A Vertical Viola would be cool too because it has a 20 inch body which is big enough for those low notes but it's also big enough that you can play it like a Cello with the end pin.

When I was in my elementary school orchestra, I played a 3/4 violin.
