My name is Shanya(Also spelled Shaniya , Shania,etc) Elizabeth so I took Shoshana Elisheva because it closely alighted to mine, Shanaya I’m told means different things , Lily, Rose, Beautiful, Ray Of sunshine, Of Spotlight, and Shoshana meant Lily of the valley /rose of Sharon which in Songs Of Solomon meant I stood out from others.Elisheva was the cousin of Mary and mother to John, my first name I’m told is derived from a Greek form of John. Because it fits perfectly I chose Elisheba as my second name , it fits with my first name which is from John , From Marys cousin and simply because I’m used to having two names as well
@TheJewishConvert4 жыл бұрын
Hallo Shoshana Elisheva. I am not sure if you are messianic or Christiaan, but I can only give you the Jewish sources for the names you picked. Jews do not believe in the gospel or the "New Testament". We are very much happy with the original testament that G-d gave us and which he called an eternal covenant which many people unfortunately call the "Old Testament. Elisheva is actually the name of the wife of Aaron who was the older brother of Moshe by 3 years. Aaron become a Cohen and thus all the high priests practically comes from Elisheva. Shoshana is mentioned in Songs of Songs where G-d calls the Jewish Nation Shoshana (Rose among the Thorns) Shabbat Shalom

I have been trying to learn the meaning and and spelling of my name, I don't really know where to look, every place I look has it a bit different. My name is Jishar (2nd son of Coat, son of Levi as said un Exodus 6:18) and Jair (which I suppose refers to the one un Numbers 32:41), would you kindly help me? May G-D bless you
@TheJewishConvert4 жыл бұрын
I did not find any explanation of the name but I can help you with the spelling. In Hebrew it is spelled יצהר which is pronounced Yitzhar. This name also appears in Deut 7:13 where the meaning is your oil.

My English name is a flower name. During my conversion one of the Rabbis that taught us had a baby girl. I love babies and was drawn to her and her name Tehilla. I added a second name Leah. People told me at the time that I should save the name for my daughter 😂 I ended up naming my kids with two very common Israeli names, Sara and Ilan

I just found out my name Khara is a curse word in Arabic and Hebrew please help
@ibbydread60923 жыл бұрын
If you simply remove the H Kara would not have that same meaning
@TheJewishConvert3 жыл бұрын
A curse only takes hold if you believe in the curse. I would not worry about it, but if you are concerned about it you can always change your name. Also it depends allot on the Hebrew Spelling. Kar in Hebrew means Cold for example.

i want to change my name to a Hebrew name as i have Jewish ancestry , looking for a synagogue in cape town
@TheJewishConvert2 жыл бұрын
Shalom. There is a few Synagogues in Cape Town. You can try Ohr Sameach or Beit Midrash Morasha in Sea Point which is the Jewish Area. You can find the details on Google and get in touch with them to discuss your case. You will need proof that somewhere in your line there is a Jewish Mother that connects to your Mother with paperwork proving this (DNA Tests is not proof). If you have a father or grandfather that is Jewish you can make Aliyah to Israel but you will not be consider Jewish since by Jewish Law either your Mother must be Jewish or you must go through the official orthodox conversion which takes minimum 2 years in South Africa.

That's a brilliant name.
@coldfusionmusical4 жыл бұрын
That's not true about Christians, for us, names are important too. My parents were very careful to give me a biblical name and I got a Hebrew name Isaac יצחק and I've been reflecting on it and the calling in my life. Perhaps you came from a background where people have become indifferent in giving names to their kids, not bothering to find out the meaning but just go with the sound, that's why it looks like Christians don't care but that's not right. What people do and what the faith actually teaches are two different things. You'll find in any faith that converts are usually more careful about their names while those born in the faith, unfortunately, appear to not care that much, not all of them though, so perhaps because you're a convert, it's fitting that you're more adamant when it comes to taking up a new name related to your new faith, but I think we can agree that some born Jews also don't have the most ideal names. Anyway, God bless
