Rocking out on the ukulele with amp and effects is a huge pleasure. There’s a level of built-in irony which I like. I admit it’s not my main style of music to play, but when I’m in the mood it’s so satisfying (complete with Big Muff fuzz pedal). After this I’m tempted by an acoustic amp as well for something more true to the ukulele sound and more subtle effects.

ha yeah I like the irony of playing rock music on a ukulele......

Really interesting, thanks. I am looking forward to your video on EQ. I have a Fireball too, but when I play it through a decent speaker (Bose L1 in my case) I hear an enormous thwak at the start of every strum. I hear it too on your video. I have bought a Boss GE-7 EQ pedal which removes it at 100 Hz, but at loss some time in general. I’m very keen to know your thoughts! Thanks.

Great video guys and superb playing - what is the uke btw? Anyway what would be best to get a range of sounds - love the acoustic amp but does it have the more grungy electric effects or would I need a pedal board etc for that? Trying to keep it simple as possible thanks!
@AnarchyInTheUkuleleTV7 ай бұрын
Thanks! :D It's a Flight Fireball Tenor The acoustic amp doesn't have many effects, so it'd be best to go into it through a pedal or 2. Alternatively, you can get an amp that has effects - something along the lines of a Boss Katana, but it could sacrifice the acoustic sound.

Just a tad surprised not to see the Roland Cube Street - a great little amp for ukes, with FX, and a mic channel to boot.

Very informative, thank you. The Flight tee-one-en-why-six is particularly good as a travel amp, since it works nicely as a Bluetooth speaker and slips easily into luggage. I use it with a Risa Solid Stick-the ukulele seemingly named after a deodorant-but with a semi-acoustic the sound gets a bit swamped by the noise coming directly from the ukulele. The other amp I have is also a small battery model, one of the Laney Mini range, and that fares rather better with the semi-acoustic. For one thing it's equipped to connect to an iPad and use the Tonebridge virtual pedal board app, which has a huge range of presets if you want to sound like George Thorogood or Muddy Waters. Slightly more expensive than the Flight and a bit bulkier, but a useful level between Flight and the pricier desktop amps.

ha ha I had never thought of the Risa stick being named after a deodorant. How do u get on with the Risa cos I love them but find the 'missing' head means they are quite tricky to play.....
@JonHancockUK Жыл бұрын
@@PaulMansellukulele It doesn't help my technique, that's for sure. Generally I quite like it, but I still haven't decided how I feel about plugging in a ukulele in the first place: I bought the Risa both to experiment with and to have something I could play almost silently to not disturb anyone. Love the simplicity of the design, and the smooth maple feels great.

@@JonHancockUK yeah must admit I am not mad on pluggin ukes in. I do like silent ukes tho as they are so good for practicing late at night....

The Fishman Loudbox Mini works really well with the uke. They also do a rechargeable version.

I feel 10 inch speakers would probably be plenty for the frequency range of a uke. A 4x10 cab would probably make it sound gigantic
