How to Chop a Round Bale

How to chop a round bale without an official 'round bale chopper.' Must have a 540 PTO capable tractor, a chainsaw, and a skidsteer or tractor with a bale spike. Must also need a chopper with a hay head.

You could unroll the bale and pick it back up with the chopper. Lot less work. We do it quite often.

Tried using a chainsaw on a wet bale that was a little frozen. I had to keep uncloging it over and over. I noticed the chain had alot of slack on this video. Didn't think to try losing mine. Not sure if it would of helped. Took forever to do the two bales .

Hi mate, nice set up! We are actually in the process of rebuilding our 717 to do the exact same thing. Any chance we could get a photo of the belt set up for the 717w? We're stuck on ours. It's time to get rid of the small scale wood chipper 🤦‍♀️

Is that dry hay? And will a chopper cut dry hay in a window? Thanks!

Chopper will work just fine on a windrow of dry hay. Hay won't ferment if chopped too dry though
