Hey Karl, Glad to see you back on the Lincoln. You probably already know this but; If you drill a 1/8" hole in each of the four corners of the windshield flange, and then run a taut string though them, making an "X" in the center....when the strings touch, you'll have a flat plane. Correct A-pillar alignment. Good when it's time for glass.
@CarterAutoRestyling
@CarterAutoRestyling Жыл бұрын
That looks really cool! Nicely done! As for the lead in the A pillar, you'll be better off to melt it all out and start over. While you can technically blend new lead into old lead, it would be very difficult to get the fresh metal tinned properly without the remains of the original lead turning into a molten mess. It's also highly likely that the factory weld seam is rusting underneath the lead, due to the tinning acid not being properly neutralized. Lead has to go over a fully welded seam that's perfectly clean. If there's any porosity in the weld or gaps in the seam the acid gets trapped and eats away at the metal below, eventually causing the lead to bubble or crack.
@YerBrwnDogAteMyRabit

Jesus..I read that twice and don't even have any lead or tinning in my immediate future. Good stuff.

Really love your channel. I learn a lot! I'm a little older, 65. (Ok... a whole lot older!!) I'm teaching myself welding and working with sheet metal. I worked a lot of hours a week and never had time to do what I wanted to do. Covid changed all that. In 2020, I got covid. I ended up in a coma for 2 months, had a stroke while I was in a coma. For five months I was in the hospital and rehab trying to learn how to walk and use my arms again. During this time I was fired from my job and went on disability. You never know what life's going to hand you. You just got to make the best of it. So I have a lot of time, not a lot of money. But, I want to learn welding and metal work and your channel is helping me. Thank you so much!

I had a 65 Thunderbird, in 1972 I chopped it 3 different times ! Finally I chopped it 5-1/8 " THE PROBLEM I didn't see was because the top is mostly flat compared to older cars with rounded roofs, that my head was hitting the roof just to see over the dash, but I liked the overall look, so I ended up removing the whole dash which was 4 inches higher than the hood.. Now I can see everything and not be banging my head on the roof.! The other problem was now it's streamlined, even with all the windows down it didn't get good air flow and was hot cruising in the summer, I made it T-tops, now it looks good and gets good ventilation., I love your channel, keep it going. Thanks

Beautiful work on the window posts , i like how you lined them up while tacking them so they could Not move. i bought a 50 ford tudor that someone started to chop and never finished. the rear part of the roof looked to fat between the side window and the rear window. and it was missing both rear corners of the roof. so i looked at chopped shoebox fords on line until i seen the look i wanted. i moved the rear window forward 2 inches at the bottom and layed the window down some now it all flows and looks way better. i really like what you are doing with your car.

The top of that door frame is pretty tall. It looks like the inner shell and outer skin run parallel for an inch or so before the inner shell kicks away from the outer skin. Maybe cut that top inch out of the top of the door frame and stitch the top back together. You wouldn't have to cut as much out of the sectioned part of the door frame and in turn it would help keep the door from looking "over chopped". I think it would help keep the asthetic you're going for. Great content BTW. I'm glad I found this channel.

I think the chop is the perfect choice. You nailed it your buddy Bennet got a good eye. Your cuts are in the right places will have to eliminate some metal out of those front posts and maybe add a little for perfect alignment but your reasoning is spot on. Gonna be one sweet car when its done.. btw you did a good job on the realignment karl.
