I have a very old farm house with peaked roofs. My only source of heat is the wood furnace. We used to have to get on the roof twice a year to clean the chimney. I now have the same brush system you are using but it has a drill bit attachment. Now I can clean it from the basement and the drill does a great job. Love your videos!

I use the same brush but instead of the rod, I tie a small rope through the loop of the brush. I unscrew and remove the chimney cap, drop the rope down through the pipe, place a bag around the bottom of the pipe like you did and pull the brush down through the pipe into the bag. I never have much creosote buildup in the pipe but there is always a pile of dry creosote that has fallen down the pipe and collected on top of the baffle that needs to be vacuumed out.

Yeah it is helpful. I still got a bit of soot falling through the bag but it is very helpful.

What do you think about creosote cleaning (sweeping) logs?

I wouldn't recommend burning them in an insert or stove, Plus nothing is going to clean a fireplace better than a brush and sweep.

Just go to the roof and clean downward ant then go get your shop vac and clean out the fire box

Always wear gloves when handling those rods especially after using them a couple times. Or you're going to end up with a hand full of fiberglass, That's the reason I got away from those rods and went to a poly push button set up.
